Chicken and the egg. More GMT players would produce the potential for finding another GMT GM. At the same time, another GMT GM would increase the potential for GMT player additions. I'm not sure what the answer is here, but the situation has certainly not fallen off our radar.

And if that number tends to dwindle, there's no use in having a GMT GM. I would like to encourage those who have the time to play, organize trips, events or whatever else, and focus on that - everything else will develop on its own.
In respect of these thoughts I'd add.
We have had a couple of years with this set up, and participation has declined in this area and in Australian time too to a point of near no activity. This is not the same position on the forums where there is activity in these time zones, so there are a few more lurkers than players.
This may imply there is still a number of interested players seeking more activity - maybe not of course.
But it is perhaps worth actively pursuing another course rather than continuation of a policy which has directly or indirectly led to a decline.
I appreciate this may not be the most exciting or important task for a game dominated by USA time participation but if it drew in even a few players it would add a breath of life into the proceedings.
The return recently of other players in USA time offers some hope that it is worth applying some active recruitment policies in GMT/AUST time zones.
Just my thoughts, hope to see some returning players in game!
