A Simple brown leather book bound by a leather strap.

*simple block letters in common adorn the page Some having been rubbed out and written over in places still readable it looks like the book has been well used.*
Mar 12, Unsure what year it is as of yet... *barely legiable under the writting* The Burden of command, burden.. people think its easy, to take a mans life in your hands. his hopes his dreams his fears.. you control them all with the flick of a wrist.. you can build them up then dash them away.. They say only tyrannts truly want to command

Gone.. Everything I had known gone.. where who bloody knows. pawns in a greater cause... Everything gone. Banished for following orders doing ones duty.. Who's bloody orders do I follow now. Fifty Five thousand men and women.. gone in, why.. Never know.. I best start looking to this place I've landed.

Leather armor.. what a strange feeling. its loose yet durable. I've not see this style since I was a wee lad. Its a comfort.. I miss my armor. I'm enjoying the freedom of this armor though.. its like a new start.. Freedom. Strange feeling it is.. My life is my own. My duties my own. My .. heart My own. though I must be weary with this new found freedom.. even the rats are able to take a sizable chunk from my hide... Rats.. more like small wolfhounds.a Hafling Mage I beleive by the name of Wil Magee was a most forthcoming lad and helped me in dealing with a Tax lady's rat issue..  Goblins seem to be a hazard as well lately.. this Red Fang following is a rather troublesome lot of blundering mongrels.. individually rather simple in design and tactics.. together they overwhelm a simple but effective tactic.. while their archers pelt you from a distance.. I've come to find I'm rather able with throwing axes.. and that solid thump of copper into a goblin skull at a good 25 lengths away is most rewarding. Elearia is here.. Strange seeing her Last I saw of her she was in full plate commanding half a legion against overwhelming odds.. strong woman, all the lads pinned over her though.. Cant say I blamed them though.. I'm glad she is here.

Mar 19 Still dont know the year..
Meet quiet a few interesting people as of late.. a dwarf.. Bruenor is his given name. Mercenary of the highest degree.. and I write that in the darkest of light. I had toyed with this thought fighting for gold.. it unsettled my stomach something fierce. I could never be as this dwarf is.. Reckless to the point of endangering all he is with. brash, brazen, rude... He is a Dwarf so some toleration is to be given.. but this one. This one is beyond being a dwarf. Dwarves have a high degree of honour I have come to find.. and a love to bash their enemies for no greeter reason then to bash them.. this one's soul is corrupt. poisoned by the thoughts of crowns.. gold.. and not in the fashion of a Dwarf for the love of good things.. I am no expert.. but this one is on a swift road to what ever this place shall call hell..

I have come to find the town I am located in is called Hilt. a simple wayfare town, with an Inn, some merchants, the Local Guards seem compentant enough.. The Quartermaster will hire any able bodied adventurer out to gather ears from the Red Fangs.. interesting concept.. but it seems to work. keeps the goblins in check. I meet another Dwarf one I speak more highly of. A Tunnel Scout by the name of Gulnyr, a most abled bodied dwarf in the ways of craftmanship.. It has come to my attention his abilties as a merchant are vast.. and if he does not have the knowledge some one he knows will.. His fighting abilities are knowledge in the ways of a scout as well... he is the first Dwarven Scout I've ever meet though I've heard rumours of these secerative groups. I think we have established a friendship, at least an accuantance ship. he has helped me in locating many of the local animal for pelts and meat. I'm gaining my abilities and knowledge of being a soldier back slowly. But each day is more and more towards me remembering the basics have come back swiftly I dont burn meat on an open flame any more.. much to the cheer of those who travel with me. Elaeria seems to be budding in this strange land... Another from my past life seems to have found his way here. Storm, Though I worry it seems his progress is slow.. if nothing else the time he spent as a Personal guard to the nobles seem to have hampered his skills in common soldiery duties.. only time will tell though I offer my hand to help.

I've meet another man as well.. within the first few days here. Bidwick.. a strange fellow but seems very compentent in his abilities as a smithy. Offered myself and Ela a job to escort him into some caves in the Seilwoods. Kobolds a nasty lot but I'm finding every day my abilities grow.. His payment was the loot we found and he crafted me a set of Bronze chain.. Which I am happy to say I wear easily and comfortably now. I enjoy this armor so much more then the old plate I once wore.. and I have paid to have it dyed.. my own colors.. no others Forest Green and Mottled Gray.. It suits me. I am happy..

Mar 21 still dont know the year..
Captain.. Captain! some of the locals have taken to calling me this.. I dont understand why, few know of my history and I've taken to calling myself by my true given name easily enough.. Colonel doesnt cross my lips that often any more.*faded writting seen under the new ink*To all Legion Commanders,
Cohorts shall be rotated quarterly as to reduce complaincency and keep the troops fresh to the mulitide of areas the Empire is required to cover. Below is the Current Standing of Cohorts stationed in outlaying areas in accordance with alliance standards.
4th Legion, 1st Cohort Imperial Light Infantry, Captain Bethany Gilbert Commands 4th Legion, 1st Cohort Imperial Light Infantry... *writing fades replaced by new*
I dont know how it seems such but many comment on my apperance as a soldier so I sell it as such.. eventually I beleive I will be compentant and able once more to enlist in a local Army or Militia.. and get back to what I know and feel comfortable in. Elaeria has meet a vast majority of people one lass.. a magi sort.. Iris quiet the innocent lady.. Capable with her arts it seems and a flying rat, Psueodragon, who has more insults then Bruenor has ego.. Cole.. this man seems to be very adapt at his abilities in combat.. I've went on a few adventures with him. Some successful others.. well we all have to sleep sometime. I like him. I can easily say that.. another Lass.. Gre' she wears the most amazing armor I've ever seen.. a sort of deamonic mask of sorts.. the plates are more wood then metal. she moves with a speed uncanny. I can honestly say I like her as well. very few I've meet as of late I can come to find I do not enjoy their companies.. yet.. I'm disappointed by Bruenor and a hafling lad named Tomi.. He was one of the first I'd meet in this land I've come to find its Called Mistone I beleive.. at least this continent. Tomi seems to have taken to the ways of Bruenor.. and holds gold above honour.. only time will tell on this one.. I have a bad feeling of ill will towards this situation..

DEC. 26

Awake.. strange feeling and find myself in Hlint.  And soaking wet to boot.. Hmm lets see what do I remember.. a seriously bad ice storm.. we had been out hunting in the swamps after this rogue shaman.Small band of use.. Dont even remember their names.. I think Ela was there.. Ela..

We had waded into a deeper portion of the swamps past Hlint I guess now in the goblin wastes. The shaman attacked us with a few of his lower minions.. easy pickings for us then it started to rain.  It got worse as we moved closer.. then snow and ice. Holding our shields over our heads to keep the worse off it sounded like drumming on metal and knocked many of the party members off their feet.

We made it to the shaman it seems.. and struck and struck,   I remember falling back into the water my armour weighing me down as the final blow was struck and a flash of cold filling me..

The last thing I remember seeing before waking up was Ela.. and the others pushing through a harsh Ice storm that had erupted when the shaman fell.

I woke up laying in a shallow hole of murky water.. covered in earth and water growth.. armour rusted almost stiff.. around me lay the remains of what looked like my old party.. no sign of the shaman.

Stumbling back into Hlint was the worst part.. much was missing.. and more hand changed. The people knew little.. and hardly any travellers had been through in years so I made my way to Fort Llast. There a wizard tasked me with finding a book to take south to the new hub of activity, Port Hampstead.. accomplishing the finding of the book, I find myself in the company of a guard and in route to Hampstead.

Hampstead.. what can be said, it is huge and foreboding.. locked off to all but of the best intentions. I meet a man and woman there in whats called the scamps cup or some such.. and off immediately we go to the kobold lands to lay them low.. not to difficult it was what came after.. a vampyre appeared from within the mist and some orc started playing common theives pranks.. we fought off both.. but in the process a lass by the name of.. izzy was bitten and many had to come and heal her..

What has happened.. these lands where once so safe.

Date unknown..

Vampyres.. orcs.. goblins.. lost wee ones.. I'm not sure what has become of these lands..

The days started out normal enough meet a lass heading from Hlint she took me about the lands a bit more. Fritter I think was her name. She showed me these.. portals as they are called that moves you from one place to another in a blink.. amazing.. but caused me some good amount of sickness the first time.

I took my leave of her at this shop of goods and meet Sala, she's married to a lad in Hempstead at the same shop. charming and quiet capable with her leadership, She lead a party on task for a weaver. Had to go to this place called Bloody Gate.. never been there till now. strange thing it was to this task.. some one payed a group to ambush us on our way.. 15 thousand trues.. thats alot of gold.

I was placed as Captain of two scouts.. it felt good to command again. Though was difficult.. Jaigan and a Lady Named Saira where my scouts most capable and listened well to orders.. though Lady Izzy was with us.. she is a, well she is something else.. I'm not sure what to make of her.. during combat she is rash and brazen, does not listen to orders and charges head long.. I saw her after the task was completed in the commons.. and she called me over calling me "arty" between her and Lady Huntamara.. I was quiet flushed with embarrassment.. clothes styles have changed they revealed quiet a bit of skin.. But it almost seemed she was upset with me when I didn't actually look.. I'll never truly understand women..

That leads to the second set of events.. we moved to Hlint to hunt down some troublesome goblins.. well didn't quiet make it. at the outskirts of Hlint we started getting harassed by summoned undead. well it started with leopard turned stone.. and a large summoned skeleton. It attacked Lady Izzy when she stood between it and the cat.. I managed to knock it from its feet and then it was killed.. this started a set of summoned creatures attacking Lady Izzy. We defended her then moved into Hlint.. and this strange ice mephit kept buzzing about us.. same one that we thought we slew near hempstead during the first set of Vampyre attacks.

Well.. that lead to finding ourselves heading into the goblins caves again.. I fell and was gravely wounded.. unable to continue I moved outside and waited there while the party continued.. and then the orc showed up.. Large hulking thing naked but for an axe and loin cloth. Threatened to take my head.. but refused to do so because I was not armed. strange.. It ran into the cave and shortly appeared after my party did.. still threatening to take my head. It was deterred off by Jaigan, Izzy and Huntamara, at which time darkness was setting so we all moved into the safety of Hlint walls.

I parted with my company and joined a few others sitting about talking.. I assisted a priestess from being prayed upon by the Ice Mephits.. it thinks we are a couple.. not a smart creature. The Spider, which turned out to be a drow, tricked the mephit into thinking leaves where growing out of its wings.. and it finally left. then we see this wee lass leaving the hlint on her own! Off I am gain.. finding her playing with goblins! strangest thing she wanted nothing to do with us.. at this time we follow her back to hlint and meet Lady Randi at the gate and Bear.. but no lass..

After looking a large party comes upon us.. the largest strangest thing I've ever seen comes galloping up.. it was the size of a horse, even had the body of such.. but the head of a dragon it seemed.. I learned later it is called a Wemic, but at the time.. it just danced around and lifted me off the ground after great protest and threats by my blade and hugged me.. turned out to be not such a bad creature.. we all where resting and talking and mist appeared.. vampyres again.. The attacked and wounded three of our members gravelly, a Jon and Fredrick and Chanyce. We fought them off as best we could.. I was wounded gravely but saved from death by Lady Randi, the vampires with drew.. and a lady appeared from the valley not knowing or having seen any vampire or child.

We talked a bit then suddenly here comes this large orc.. wearing an impressive armor.. looking for a large "horse" as it said. One of the group a lady by name of saili or such.. I didn't catch it well. Wished to talk to the orc.. so walked up to it as we prepared for battle.. it demanded the Wemic.. she talked a bit more and a second orc appeared walked up and then attacked! They chased the wemic and fought it wounding it gravely, I jumped into the attack before they could slay it, only to be badly wounded myself. We where able to slay one Wemic Hunting orc the other.. backing off to talk to this Saila lady again..

Here I am confused.. at one time.. an Orc would be feathered and burnt before every attempting' to talk to it.. now.. its not polite to kill it before you drink tea with it.. She let it walk off.. after it attempted to slay a party member.. I had enough and fired a bolt hitting it slowing it down drawing blade I charged it. Lady Randi supported me with her weaving.. The Orc was large and powerful laying in heavy blows upon my old weak armor and wounded me gravely, I fell to my knees once more and thought I had breathed my last when the orc exploded in death by a weaved spell from Lady Randi..

I tell you I felt as if I was the Darkness.. having killed this evil beast made me the evil in the eyes of many there.. an Orc just because it speaks does not change its nature.. and aye so they spoke of not all are bad.. true.. but this one had shown its colors. It would not hesitate regardless of wither it stated it had no business with us or not.. it was evil and eventually would have business with us. I stand now by my actions as always.. but I am troubled.. I spoke to Lady Randi about it and she agreed the Orc was wrong and evil and needed death.

Needless to say.. I was able to find a new set of armor from the Wemic hunter it will need some reworking so it will take at least a season before I can wear it. We never did find the wee lass.. and I fear the Vampyres found her before we could get to her.

I am not sure what to think any longer.. once it was easy to tell what was and was not evil.. now.. you remove one evil.. you are that evil in some one else's eyes.. I'm to the point I truly care not what any think.. Evil is evil. actions be get actions.. these lands have changed.

Mulnari, Novlar 9, 1426

Much has happened in the past few weeks.. I've finally learned the date, and year, took me many a year to do.. 45 it seems..

I've spoken to Sir Quantum and Lady Clarissa of Toran. Both Paladins in his way.. and it seems my heart and mind are now drawn in that direction. Lady Clarissa gave me a small book to study and learn, stating if I have any questions but to send message and she would answer them. So far.. it is en lighting, It came of great help in assisting Fort Wayfare.

We had been discussing the current vampyre situation in the lands in Hempstead almost a week ago now I think.. m'self and Bear, Omer, Sall the carpenter. A guard walked up to us from the temple stating something terrible was taking place within the walls of Fort Wayfare, well we had nothing better to do so we all decided to go and investigate.

Upon entering the walls of Wayfare we found the mayor speaking to three.. really furry haflings and then he addressed us. Spoke of a darkness that has enveloped the western gate, and how he had requested clerics from wayfare and Fort Llast of Torans temple to investigate and none had returned.. but unholy screams had been heard from that direction.

We decided to assist with the furry little haflings.. I didn't trust them. just something didn't sit right with them.. we made our way out the west gate and immediately ran into a creeping darkness so thick no light would cut it.. and within.. skeletons oozing an unholy green flame. Spirits screaming and moaning as they attacked, we fell them with few wounds and moved into the Moaning woods.

The little furry things turned out to be quiet capable scouts. And one was a very accomplished cleric.

In the Moaning woods, the half man half goats didn't care to much for us. They attacked regardless of what was said by the furry halfings.. we fought them off then the Undead returned from a hole in the ground.. mist and green fire every 'here.. one of the furry halfings feel, and we fought them off to gather up its body.

We entered the tomb and faces beasts that I've never seen before.. a huge eyeball with tenticals for hair.. shooting beams of lights, knocked me on my arse twice, we fell it.. then pushed on more skeletons.. green fire, death.. we carried the fallen halfingly the whole way.. until we found a portal. Thing stank of death so utterly bad it caused one of the furry things to vomit up a squirrel.. and I think the squirrel winked at me as the furry thing reate it..

We decided to toss one of the furry things through the portal.. with its choosin' of course.. Named Nonac I think.. it wanted to do it was actually happy to.. and we tossed him in.. with a rope about his waiste. he was supposed to tug twice if trouble.. well all of a sudden the rope started flying through the portal burning our hands and we couldnt stop it.. and I followed it.. while every one was standing there I jumped in after it..

On the other side the little runt had one thing to say.. He burped.. and said the rope tasted good.. HE BURPED. I swear I'll make a hat out of him.. but we continued on finding this large chambers on each side of the hall. One side had a large amount of skeletons and spirits.. and this little red colored thing.. about the size of a dog but wasnt one.. it actually tried to back away from us until we slew it.. caused rust on my blade.

We entered the other chamber.. and there we found it..

A Lich.. glowing blue in the light and floating off the ground while every one was fighting off its skeleton knights I was shooting my crossbow in support.. and saw it Dont think any of the others did. I shot at it thrice times.. hit it thrice and it snarled and disappeared after the other furry halfingly shot at it and hit it.. the spells about it disappeared.. don't know where it went.

We found large chains in the chamber pulled right out of the wall. and made our way to the top.. collapsed the hole with magics and rocks. Reported to the mayor of wayfare and he made a huge to do about it..

All in all it was interesting.. and my mind upon the little furry runts has changed a bit.. but not much still not sure if I should trust them.. Lately alot of those thoughts have gone through my mind. Stick to what I know of the evils I've seen.. or allow the thought that perhaps not all are evil due to their color or type of being they are.. Some.. its simple they are evil will be evil and always are evil.. slay them. Undead fit here.. orcs, goblins, trolls, just to name a few.. but I keep running into the situation of Drow.

Are the dark elves capable of being anything other then evil? perhaps.. I've meet one who seems to be just that an unevil being. capable of care and assistance.. I've been judged heavily for killing an orc because it killed a party member.. the person wanted to talk to it.. It showed its intent when it attacked our party.. nothing to talk about. But. I was the one called wrong and evil.. This I do not agree with but things are so different now.. so very different..

I've never been a pious man.. never one to bend knee and pray when things get hard. So when on impulse I paid to have my armor changed.. the crest upon my shield changed.. I wasnt sure what I was doing.

I now stand as a Sword in the Line of Toran. I'll never be a Paladin. Definately never be a Priest. So I'll do what I've always done.. fight with blade and shield. Maybe train those who need it.

I've meet a Paladin Lady Stormhaven, and her brother. He is to be a priest and is rather younge yet learns well..

I continue in my daily patrols between Hlint and Hempstead. I have received and accepted orders to be stationed at Fort Llast at the temple there. It seems the war with that cult.. has never finished. I remember many a good arguement over that incident.. I wonder what happened..

It seems the same issues I faced outside Hlint on the stances of certain races still appear on a daily basis.. a week past I faced yet again.. some rather large orcish looking individuals.. but no one raised a blade against them.. in fact they opened them freely into the fire light. I remember an Orc attack so many years ago.. and being wounded gravely in facing them.. yet here I was sitting inches from these brutes..

I am confused and not sure where I should be looking for guidance. I'll continue in the ways of which I know for now.. as they do not direct me wrong..

Toran Willing I suppose I shall find my place here.
