Guild membership
« on: June 21, 2005, 01:07:00 PM »
Hi all

I might get blown out of the water for this thread, but just wanted to find the reasoning behind it. If it is inappropriate, please delete. I tried to get the reason for the rule on the forum but could not find any.

I know there is a rule that a character may only belong to one guild at any giving time.
I just wondered why that is?

I makes perfect RP sense (to me in any case) that a ranger for example could belong to the Wolfswood Rangers to share knowledge amongst ranger friends and collectively protect the forest.
But at the same time belong to a crafting guild such as the Orc Bashers.

Any comments?

The main reason is because at one time we were going to have a system in place that was automatic, a pretty cool guild system -- if only we could have gotten it to work properly.  Since it based everything off of character name and bioware id (nwn forces us to use that for uniqueness) we had to make that rule.  NOW...I still plan to have a guild system in place and it will still have that requirment (due to nwn restrictions) but sadly we have been swamped with getting other systems in place.
With that said...I am willing to slide on this rule a little but it needs to be in an in-character and RP fashion.  But when I do this I need to have the communities support that when I (or the team) state that we do not think it would be an RP or IC reason that we don't get slammed every which way. :)  Also...when/if (and I really hope we do!!) get the coded system in to play we will need to switch it to where a character can only be in one guild at a time (and get the rewards of the coded system) but they could belong to another (but not get the coded rewards).
Does that make any sense or did I just ramble on?

Makes sense to me. And thanks for providing the reasoning behind the rule, as this was a decision I've been wrestling with, as well.

Makes perfect sense.

I think, L and Team, you all need to clone yourselves. Think..Multiplicity..;)

That makes perfect sense and thanks for clarifying that for me.

Yes the Orc Bashers is a crafting guild.
And we sell our crafted products in the shop in Hlint.

Our guild master is a dwarve but not by a long shot is there only dwarves in the guild.
