quetion on subrace kind of

I have been feeling the urge to play a bard and have a great concept (according to me) and a rudimentory char outline the thing is Im kind of stuck on the race/subrace.  I am leaning toward elf/wood elf. However a major part of her story is she is shunned by her family because she is weak and smart and not at all sutiable for the family trade aka protecting the forest causing her family to move and latter causing her to live with an uncle who is a scholar. The question is then on Layonara can she be a "wood elf" without taking the wood elf subcalss, as Wood elves are + str and Dex -con int and cha. ( I know I can leave subrace blank but is that really acceptable to say your a wood elf if your stats are normal elf) And she is the opposite of the typical wood elf. All of this of course assuming that I settle on wood elf or even elf not 100% their but strongly leaning toward elf and that when submitted she is approved. I hope this makes since.

Well, yeah I'd say she can be a wood elf without having the stat changes... Explained by her being somewhat special.

There's always strange cases among all races.

This of course would be different with the more special subraces such as tieflings, halfgiants, etc... ones that usually have ECL. But with the elven and dwarven and whatever subraces, it shouldn't be such a big deal.

Then again I don't approve characters... But that's what I think.

Thanks for the response IDii.  Yeah I totally agree on the ECL subraces like tiefling, the celestial blood being what makes them special and not based on "race" per say.

Write a good bio, make sure it's detailed. Explain why you're wanting to do that.

It won't guarentee you're approval, but it will give you a chance.

I am working on the bio and have been for a few days while my internet is getting hooked up since I just moved.  It is in the third draft and hopefuly the final where it will be flushed out. I usualy do a rought outline of idea or concept, then a short one page history with the basic history, timeline, people places and events that shape them in general, then take that page and flush out the detail as to what exactly happned along with the hows and whys.  Its is a complicated story and Im still not 100% sure she will be an elf at the end.  I started the concept for a human, then in the second draft the story seemed more elvish in nature, and I am working on the elvish developement idea at the moment, but much like RPing you never fully know where the char is going to end up int he story.  I have several years to fill in from birth to adventurer.  The main reason at the moment for her weakness is that her entire village was cursed by a song witch. (kind of like the elven handbook spell singer for 2nd ed) and she was born under the curse before it was lifted. Thiers allot more to it and most will work for human, elf, or wood elf.  Mostly was thinking of wood elf because of their social structure and views, but again it would work for any elven village that is more isolated then most.  I'll get it developed more. Right now just wanted to make sure before I totaly to the write up as definatly wood elf that their was at least a chance of doing it. I much perfer to make changes before I get completly done developing the char and getting inside them to RP from creation on, then have to make a big change and rethink the fundamentals like socal structure etc. Espicaly wher wood elves have a naming day and diffrent names then non wood elves and a diffrent outlook.
