Defensive Spellcasting
« on: June 26, 2005, 08:02:00 PM »
I have never used this in any of my spell casting characters.

I am just wondering what exactly it does, if anyone makes use of it, etc.

Thanks...

Basically it's a mode you can toogle into.  If you make a successful concentration check (vs. DC 15, I think), your casting will not incur an AoO

Attack of Oppertunity(sp)

so what is the downside to using it? I always thought it was  like parry for spellcasters somehow. Might as well always have it toggled on?

You have to make a concentration check to hold the spell while dodging and weaving.  If you fail it, you lose the spell even if you dont get touched by an enemy.

I think the DC is 15 + spell level but I'm not sure

That's exactly how it works. It's a wonder at higher levels. Great for a cleric that needs to run in and heal the fighters. Just be sure that you enable it while you are running towards who you want to heal. I've died too many times on other servers while waiting for the mode to kick in.
