Request aid of someone of linguistic knowledge
    « on: July 04, 2005, 09:53:00 PM »
*a note, written in a very cramped style, with small letters, is tacked up in the Inn*

Knowledge seeker needs aid in deciphering strange tongue in tome of considerable age, found at the Great Library in Saida. Language is in it's own written alphabet, although this could be a cipher. Judging by amount of mildew damage, dustiness, nearly complete illegibility, and strange semantics of legible passages, the book has been deemed very, very, very, very, very old. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Regards,

If you could send me just a sample of the scripture I shall do what I can.

*Scherzo walks by and looks at the note with great interest*

Hmm... I didn't come across that one...  Fascinating.

*Tacks up a small note and leaves*

If it is possible, I would like to view the book.  I can almost assure you that I won't be able to decipher any of the language, but in the persuit of knowledge, I would be absolutely thrilled to see it.

*tacked up in a neat flowing script, with a few ink smudges on the ede of the paper.*
I have studied many languages and am currently trying to decipher another old book. I will make no promices but as a historian and lore keeper who speaks over 6 languages, I would be happy to assist you in anyway possible. However if it is a lost language and a cypher it may take considerable time and money to do so. I would still be willing to take alook at what  you have found and see if it is similar to anything I have encountered before.

*Daeron spots the note and adds a message, him being always interested in a good puzzle*

I can give no assurance that I can translate it for you, specifcally if it is written in a language that was only used in the past and on Layonara only. But otherwise I'm sure I'll be able to translate it for you.

      Best regards,

*another note is tacked up beside his first, in the same writing style as the previous*

I appreciate all of the responses. Unfortunately, the administrator at the Great Library in Saida needed the text back for a week or so, for reasons she wouldn't inform me of. I should be getting the text back soon enough though.
