Movie Man Ponders
« on: July 18, 2005, 07:34:00 PM »
Ok guys, we've had a lot of people sneaking food into the movies this week (I'm talking Firehouse Subs and Chick-fil-A).  So I'm wondering, how often do you sneak food into the movies when you go?  And post below what type of food you bring in (drink, light snack, four course dad gum meal, etc.).  I'm not going to come find you and be all angry if you sneak food in.  I'm just curious.

I HAVE snuck food into the movies, but I don't do it often. I remember one time me and my family were going to see something, and it was winter, and I had this HUGE coat, and they got me to sneak in candy and stuff.

I don't go to movies to eat though, so I don't even really think abut sneaking stuff in until I am already paying for my popcorn.

I try my best to not eat at the movies for various reasons. Mostly the noise factor but also because the food is so darn expensive. It costs me more to have a decent sized meal with drink than it does to buy the ticket. Nachos, Nibs and a large Pepsi is almost $20 CDN while the same from the corner store is less than $7 and I get way more food for that $7.

So in protest, I try not to buy food at the theatre but usually buy a small drink to at least keep my lips wet. Now out of respect to the fact that a theatre is a business establishment I don't sneak food in.

However, all of this changes should I go to a "mom-'n-pop" theatre (ie: not Famous Players or the like). When I go to these smaller venues for my movie watching desires, I'll buy just about anything I can fit in my stomach because I like to see my money go to the non-uber-conglomerate-near-monopoly-sized establishments.

Then again, I'm a (probably hippocritical) freak and a fanatic when it comes to my morals/ethics which probably explains my adamant usage and advocacy of Free Software.

I am not a popcorn kinda guy. And I don't really eat when I get there. If I were to want some candy I would sneak it in. For one-all the theatres around here has stopped selling the goodstuff. No Hot tamales, no mike and ikes, one here doesn't even sell the JR Mints :( And 2nd-the price...nuff said

pretty much the only food i sneak into movies is JuJu-bees, because you can't by them at the theatre, and even one small box will last you for the entire movie and then some, so they are the best movie candy around

Here in the UK, going to the movies is an expensive outing. For my wife and I to yake our four kids to see a film would cost in the region of £30 ($53) then when we buy popcorn, sodas and candy for them, it becomes quite expensive(As the kiosks in the cinemas charge double the store pirces for things). Although a great family trip, sadly we cannot afford to do it that often.

So have to put my hands up here, we normally sneak a bag of store bought popcorn and some cans of soda in with us.. I know, I know. We have been naughty, but please dont send the cinema patrol round...

I once sneaked a Fish and Chip (Fish fried in batter and french fries, served in paper with salt and vinegar - Englands staple diet LOL

)

supper into the movies years ago. a lot of people complained to me, not because I was eating in the cinama, but because the smell was making them hungry..

In sweden, it's almost okey to go in with candy and such. They doesn't stop you, they are busy with their things, and it's always so expensive to buy candy by the movie. But i almost always buy popcorns, i like popcorns. *drewls*

With me, it depends on what I feel like eating, really, and who I'm with.

One particular group of friends and I always sneak in something like 10-20 tacos plus fries and nachos...or a couple boxes of pizza. We don't go overly often though. And for whatever reason, we never eat dinner before we go. Hmm. hahaha

How do we do it? We're very very sneaky. You can only really pull it off in the winter...(deep pockets, large coats...3 or 4 guys. actually one guy has a pocket in his coat that's much bigger than my head.)

On the otherhand, with other people I just buy stuff there. I'm also more apt to buy food when my friends let me in for free at one of the 4 places I go to...hehehe :)

Going to the movies is really expensive for 2 adults and 4 kids, but we try to plan ahead and take a some extra cash to buy the super size pack that has 2 extra large soda's and super size popcorn.  This cost about $13. They also give you a free refill once on the soda and popcorn.  So we usually are pretty happy not to sneak something in.

On a side note* We are going less to the movie theaters unless it's harry potter or star wars (something biggy).  We have started an online DVD rental program that has been great.  They come in the mail and no late fees and return mail is postage free.  What a deal.  And we can eat all the snacks or fish and chips *smiles* in the comfort of our living room.

I tend not to eat or drink in the movies.  When I eat i have to have something to drink, and my bladder is soo flippin small that at the most I have to go to the washroom in half an hour.  So I avoid it at the movies.

I don't even bother going to the theater anymore.  Why sit next to hoardes of screaming brats, pay quadruple for some greasy snacks and sit through 20 minutes of forced pre-screening advertising when you can just sit at home and Payperview/rent?  90% of modern films are inane, simplistic pop-cinema with cheesy one-liners and incessant posing shots.  I don't mind so much waiting a month or two to see a movie, especially since no theaters allow smoking anymore.  (and by then I have enough friends reviews to see if its worth it)

If I ever do go to the theaters, its because one of my manager friends gave me free tickets, and I usually go during the early morning before the swarms come in. And yes, considering a candy bar is 3-4 bucks by their economy, if I snack, it's smuggled. It tastes so much better that way. If any usher tried to confiscate it, I would likely return on a premier night with a jar of moths... hehehe

Ever since the release of Jurassic Park II, I've lost all faith in the business. ;)
