Odd... observation.
« on: July 26, 2005, 09:58:00 AM »
I've been awake now for over 24 hours. I don't normally do this and thus my mind wanders.

I've been up all night reading 'The Bastard King' by Dan Chernenkov... or something like that. Pretty good book.

So anyways, I'm sitting here in my horribly busted and mutilated computer chair, staring blankly at the computer screen, thinking to myself.

Can you have a 'Lighter shade of Black'? How about a 'Lighter shade of Darkness'?

And to that end, can you truly play songs 'In the key of life'?

Spawned by sleep deprevation, I'm wondering if you can come up with anymore quirky little sayings like that... Whiter shade of pale...

My experience is that sleep deprivation is like a mild drug. Hehe

As far as songs in the key of life go....ask Prince. He says those are his favourite.

I prefer the "Key of H," myself.

One more thing...I had a friend once who tried to convince me a line could be so straight that it's a circle. (he wasn't successful)

Well once I slept only 3 hours during three days, I must say that thinking about anything at all wasn't really an option. My head had only one thought.....sleeeeeep, everything else didn't matter heh.

Heh, 24 often results in 36 hours without sleep.

But anyway, a lighter shade of black. Well, it's often said that black isn't a color, it's what you see when there is no light at all. This is either the result of the lack of a light source or a material that absorbs the full spectrum of light. A lighter shade of black would mean a little bit more light. So I think you can have a lighter shade of black and darkness as well.

Oh and Ayeron, your friend is right. It's just a matter of perspective. A line doesn't have to be 3 dimensional, so you could have a perfect straight line wrapped around the earth. If you stand on top of it, it's a straight line. From outer space, it's a circle.

My thought exactly about the line, it can go in a circle around the earth, like standing on the equator and looking west or east.

Our history teacher was telling us about a time when he was in college and his roommate got really sick, so he had to cover his shifts at work for him.  To do so, the man had to go about 3 or 4 days without sleep.  By about the 2nd day or so, he was in his car in traffic and pulled over because the sleep deprivation caused him to hallucinate. He could swear he saw bunnies the size of buiks off in the distance, and was afraid the cars were about to hit them, so he pulled over, got out of his car and started screaming at the cars... "No the bunnies!  don't hurt the bunnies!"

I believe most of the story, but think that it had something more to do with his being in college than what was really from sleep deprivation.  It was the 60s after all.

Silent letters are there so that dogs who hear sounds beyond our range can hear the full words, which we alas, can not.

Songs in the Key of Life is one of Stevie Wonders' albums. But it makes you think.

After four hours of sleep, I'm here to think out loud some more, but it's even harder to keep a straight thought. My body has tasted the goodness of sleep, and thirsts for more. Stupid, stupid work.

Of course, by think out loud I mean wash my uniform and get my butt to work. I can't really think of anymore crazy sayings. Because now I'm truly 'sleepy'. Not 'contemplatively high'.

Eh. Think of it more as the The Park-Like Way, not as in "stop the car and get out" but "I'm going to the park to trip children so I can be the first to the water fountain." You know. All that stuff. Taking the scenic route. And driveway.... Have you seen those massive manor-ish houses that make you drive for practically another hour once you've past the gate? That kind of private road would be a driveway, it's just most people get the short space to park.

          *looks around* Never mind.

I'm in one of those 'moods' again... therefore... *sings* I have more posts than you, I have more posts than you, tra la la...

Anywho!! How about a phrase like, 'Rub a dub dub, three men in a tub'? Actually come to think of it, I don't know if I want to know how that one came to pass.

What about, like... 'Turn a new leaf' or 'Dear god, why would you jam our printer so?'

          Yes, I'm sleepy. >:-( Shh.

I feel pretty lame actually responding, but turning over a new leaf makes a lot more sense if you think of it in the sense of it being a...leaf as in a loose page or something, not a leaf plucked from a tree. You know. Blank page, fresh start. Let me know when to shut up.

*shifty eyes* The tub was a boat and they were really bad fishermen.

Can't help you with the printer bit, I'm personally convinced they just do that to spite me.

It's 4:30am. Do you go and take a nap, go to bed and sleep half the day, or stay up all day an attempt to make it to a normal time to crash? That part always loses me. I'm bad at the sleeping game.

Second Edit- I thought I'd add that once, when my printer jammed and I took off the back to pull the thing out, I investigated to find the source and found... popcorn. How does this happen? I don't even eat popcorn often. Let alone in such an out of the way place as under the desk with my face in the printer tray.
