    « on: August 23, 2005, 04:00:00 AM »
Curious as to how many bards are actively played.

Acacea is a bard. :) And she's met several others.

Owen is my main character and a bard.  There are actually quite a few bards on these days.  Then of course there is always, THE Bard. :)

Yeah, lots. And yet, they don't come to the inn to perform. *shakes fist*  :o

There is a player event this Friday where we will be performing.  It is a traveling tour of sorts.

    See here: http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/calendar/event-view.asp?eventid=1128&year=2005&month=8

There is no date for the next one but I believe the location will be the Leilon Arms.

Maybe I should ask a second opinion if I do or don't, can't make up my mind.

    Bard^1 - (bärd)

One of an ancient Celtic order of minstrel poets who composed and recited verses celebrating the legendary exploits of chieftains and heroes.
A poet, especially a lyric poet.

There we go, this should make the rest of the votes interesting.

I thought the chances of Acacea posting first were better than the chances that the sun would rise.   ;)

I try to fit the traditional meaning of bard, "minstrel poets who composed and recited verses celebrating the legendary exploits of chieftains and heroes."  Trouble is, it takes a lot of time to compose such epics.  It also takes time and careful attention to understand and appreciate that sort of work.

Clicky to an idea for the bards, now that we have a rough idea of their population.

No not really...I figure why have a Bard when you can be a Ranger or a Rogue.  They do get to use some magic though which is cool.  Just don't think they're that neat personally.

I play a bard, Ifion Witseeker. While I agree that the bard class is not the best choice for the powergamers among us, it's a lot of fun to roleplay. I've written a number of songs/poems about events, and am working on material for a performance at the Arms. RL schedule just keeps interfering  :(

For one, Rangers and Rogues dont get the bard song.  It can be a major benefit.  Curse song is kinda cool too.  From a strictly technical aspect anyway.

I know anyone can tell a story, but the bard is a master storyteller.  It's all about the RP in my opinion.  The bard as a class is a supporting member of the party.  They can take to the front during RP type things but as a combat class they are a little weak.  Hence the emphasis on the RP.  I am noticing a pattern here :)

          I love the bard class.

I sometimes wish I was running a bard so that I could actually make all those witty remarks that I want to, and have an actual excuse for being distracting and annoying... but a bard's lack of offensive magic prevents me from doing so.

Bah, bards.  I laugh at them.  Though many of you may disagree with me, I find that bards are useless characters with weak spells and outshadowed by rogues in skills.

                I have The Bard.

He used to follow me around and keep me company on my travels.

I often miss his banter and lies.

He doesn't visit Lar as much as he should.

Acacea is a total pansy that is further weakened by being part rogue, instead of merely being a bard with rogue skills. She tags along on a lot of trips and is utterly useless except to throw potions and shoot arrows at the bad guys (and maybe the dwarves if she's been drinking). That being said, she's fun to play most of the time, and I can think of a number of people that like to have her along just so their characters can be annoyed at her constant chatter/impromptu songs. It can be a good time.

(Of course, that's not really the topic at hand. I'll just blame the halfling and say she had to respond.)

*points at my post above*  Bards are supporting characters in a party.  Owen is level 9 and only now can handle some solo play.  He still gets his butt kicked by small stuff.  Bards definitely need help in the combat areas.  But as I said before, it is all about the RP.  Which is why I play here on an RP server. :)
