Concerning the orc quest:
« on: September 13, 2005, 11:36:00 PM »
Yep. Suddenly there are more orcs on Mistone than before. Hehe…
I would like to have some feedback on the following:

First question:

Timeline:
As all “new orcs” are doing/having/making more quests. How shall we deal with being orcs?
Here is my example:
As I joined Viggs CDQ before becoming an orc (and Varka is still running around in Underdark with Vigg), I hope that I can play Varka the dwarf on that part.

Further:
12th. The dwarven meeting (Player event) where the PC’s planned for the future.
13th Varka became an orc.
The challenge:
On the 25th I have my CDQ (GM event) where Varka afterwards will head for the second dwarven meeting (Player event) to report back.

Now… I see two possibilities.

1.   Either Varka has become an orc before the CDQ has begun (due to the “timelime”). Which I will have to deal with.
2.   Or Varka has become an orc after the CDQ and Dwarven meeting.

Because changing into an orc while moving directly from Bloody Gate to Haven does not really fit.
Unlees Varka turns into an orc during full moon ;)

So the consequences:
Either I will take the full consequence of changing into an orc. Which will have an influence on my CDQ or... ??????

Just making it half orc and half dwarf doesn’t seem logical in my opinion due to the timeline. Just because one part is my CDQ and another is not.

Second question:
What about: Items, gold, crafting, crating xp and xp from other quests?

Third question:
I believe there are some who wishes to have a key to their house again.

Fourth question:
As Layo was “booted” a few times I made 2-3 new accounts. Can I get them deleted and make a new orc?

Fifth question:
Yesterday I couldn’t make my orc into a battlerager. Is it restricted to dwarfs?
If battlerager is restricted, can I make an orc which is barbarian/fighter?

    Well...

I think that we will have to RP that we are orcs all the time after we where turned intto orcs, that was what we agreed upon democraticly.

With respect to other quest, if they started before we where turned into orcs then we stay as our normal selves, if they start after we stay as orcs. Unless it is CDQ's for our own character. with respect to dwarf meetings I suggest you just try to go an convince the dwarfs that you are one of them....

    2. Well i think that most of us can without crating for now, but as i see it the combat exp we get has to be transfered to our normal selves, so we all have to make a note of how much exp. we had when we started as orcs.

    Pretty much what Harloff said.

If you need additional equipment, some gold or house keys from your "real" characters, PM me and I will drop in either tonight or tomorrow to handle the exchange.

-> Your accounts can get deleted. Just post in the thread: http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=14715&posts=2. Post the account name, and the name of the character you want to have deleted.

    Fifth question:

If battlerager is restricted, can I make an orc which is barbarian/fighter?

-> Yes, we will make Varka a barbarian/fighter instead.

I find myself (orc self) changing in totally unexpected ways.  This experience will certainly bring changes to the human Ayla.
Having convinced all my RL relatives that I'm illiterate, I set up Ayla as an ordinary girl who wouldn't need to write a journal.  And at the rate I'm going, I figure she will be truly dead long before needing an ECDQ.
However, being an orc is a life-changing experience in every sense of the word, and I have no idea where this life-change is going to take me.  I'm really quite excited about it.  So, I think I must start a journal.  *sigh*
Congratulations and kudos, Harlas, on a great and truly imaginative quest!  I can't wait to see what happens next.

As tempting as it was to join the group in the circle and become an orc, I couldn't justify having Xiao Lin do that.  As a monk, he holds firm to the belief that the body, mind and spirit are intimately intertwined, and so was extremely resistant to the idea of changing once Algaron explained that the change was not an illusion, but that each person was actually changed into an orc. That, and the fact that he made absolutely no assurances anyone would or could be changed back, was enough to keep Xiao out of the circle.  As a player, I was happy to see that Xiao's concerns were justified, as other characters' minds were becoming more orcish as the quest went on.
It was kind of fun trying to be the voice of reason, though, as the orcs went on their bloodthirsty killing spree, then to have them all talk about him in orcish.  I was having serious questions in my mind about whether Harlas would allow PK in this case, and was thankful that I would likely be able to outrun the mob, should they turn on me.
This is one of the most imaginative quests I have been on in a long time, and look forward to next week's installment.  Keep up the good work, Harlas!

First off - I want to thank you, Harlas, for a superb quest.  And it’s very creative to have an element (the transformations) that tangibly affects us outside of the quest itself!

I confess my first reaction to the change was a bit negative.  As a player, and through Ael, in-character, I understood the change to be a potent disguise that would enable us to infiltrate the orc horde +right away+.  We would go in to gather more information and/or kill the leaders - and be back out shortly - back to our normal selves.

But I have come to welcome this as a great opportunity not only for very realistic roleplay, but also to more thoroughly develop Ael - even “getting to know him” better.

So now Ael finds himself adapting to something he did not expect would happen to him - being stuck in orc form.  He has to change plans (some of them major), change his approach to fighting, struggle with trying to express himself as an orc, etc... He is having to adapt to an unexpected major circumstance - which is something that eventually happens to all of us in RL! :-)

And as Serissa wrote about Ayla, this will be a +very+ transformative experience for Ael.

So I’ll share some of the notes I have made about Ael’s perspective on this.  Ael, too, has perceived the continuity of mind and body, yet would not go so far as to say the former are intimately intertwined with that which he perceives to be his spirit.  Now as I developed in his background, Ael has been meditating for some eighty years prior to coming to Hlint to begin his career as a warrior monk.  From his many years of meditation work, he has come to view that which many call “the self” (i.e., myself) as nonexistent.  He views thoughts, feeling, sensations, preferences, physical elements (hands, feet, etc) all as constantly changing processes cascading in front of a consciousness, none of which he identifies with.  They are just there.  He is free to choose what to cultivate and develop, and what to ignore, letting the latter spin off into nothingness.

So it was immaterial to him whether he assumed the form of an orc or continued on as a drow.  These are just variations in the flavor of existence.  Yet principles are crucial for Ael.  And the principle of maintaining the security of Mistone (and end) justified assuming the form of an orc to go kill the leaders of a horde threatening Mistone (a means).  So once again, the end justifies the means, at least for Ael.

Yet one way or another, Ael will find a way to return to his original drow form, as it provides, at least in his opinion, a more efficient means for obtaining certain ends he has identified as worthwhile.
