ahhh... you've been bogged down by the mechanics. Happens to the best of us. I'd give you advice, but I have done so once before and so has a load of other people, so I'll refrain this time.
I only have one thing to say..... A Rapier-wielding Dwarf?!! He got made fun of a lot when he was in Dwarven axe-school didn't he?

your not going to have a perfect char.. so don't worry about it, just make one you can live with and have fun.

A dwarven fighter/wizard that fights with a rapier *raises eyebrow*
If I remember correctly such topics were defined as powergameish and weren't allowed, or atleast I remember it was like that some time ago.
You are doing it all wrong, you need to first find an idea for a character that you would enjoy and then tailor the build according to his personality, history, skills etc. If you do it the other way around, the way you are trying to do it now, then you will end up with a very weird character who has an even weirder backround. All in all he will be perfect stat wise, but he will be absolutly empty as a character, RP wise.
Remember, the most important is the story, the personality, everything else is secondary. Rufus has very weird feats and skills that I have taken during the time I played him. Effeciency wise, quite a few of them are worthless, but those things are what add character to Rufus and make him special.
You need to find a character whom you would enjoy playing because of his personality, not because he can cleave ogres very quickly. I know it is not an easy task, it is something that I really like about Rufus, but really can't accomplish with my newer characters. Don't rush into it, take a few days to think the story through, everything else will follow.

I say what you need to do right now is throw the numbers and all that out the window. It's very possible, of course, to have your character thought out personality wise, and then have good well rounded stats to back them up so they are efficient but still true to character, like a lot of the better ones out there- but it seems clear that this is not what you are aiming at. I think you should forget about them altogether for awhile and try playing one for itself, without generating a blank person from a set of ideal numbers.
I'd take one character who is less than perfect and likely gets me into a great deal of trouble, over a team of empty slaughtering machines any day of the week.
I'm pretty sure all of the responses on all of the threads have been basically saying "Pick what fits your character," and you probably aren't going to get a whole lot more than that, at this point..

aye. I for one have had enough looking for a perfect character. Although fighting and being really powerful is fun(like my Dwarf Rhanrok), I have yet to find a character that i like to play more than i did when i used Zeos.....
I really miss him....
anywho, trust me when i say it gets really boring when you have a really powerful character.

Alright, I understand...How about I just make an elf with rapier, magic and a well thought background, that would make more sense...

its always fun to just start a character with fighter or rogue levels with no idea where they're going to go, and see what happens and request any multiclassing later.

absolutly! look how useless Weston Pendrot is... a Sorcerer who thinks he's a Knight and tries to fight... fierce valiant streak.. fights with a long sword and armor... perfectly worthless but one of the most noble and charming characters I've ever made... intelligent... charismantic... and completly oblivious to everything around him.

I tend to stick with the things I enjoy the most ... Paladins and Priests. I've always enjoyed these types of PCs more than the others especially for campaign driven/world concepts where you hae to live with your PC for quite a long time. I don't pay attention to how I set my stats and create the character concept first (Layo's version of a Bio) then try to adjust the stats simply to fit my idea.
Elf, Rapier, Magic ... sounds like fun, I hope you enjoy

I tend to stick with things that smash good.
"That's not big enough...... Nope, still not beig enough..... Ahhhh, just right."
"But that sword is three times your height!!!"
"That's why it's perfect."

OH MY GOLLY GOSH!
Just thought of my stats, I decide to decrease my consituation and increase wisdom a bit. So, I get a character who is quite ugly - but is after the ladies and depends on intelligence and wisdom to "win the girl"!
Gunna try it out, now to write my thought out character plan!
