To your Royal Highness the Queen of Mistone,
In respect to your duties and the pressing needs of the Kingdom and the elevated alert for the forces of Blood, I shall keep my letter short and to the point. After the recent attack upon the Fortress Harbor of Valensek it has occured to me that, while many hid, there are those who do not have the means or the strength to aid in defence of their cities. This being said, our guards and armed forces performed exceptionaly well and are to be admired in their continued defence of our home here in Mistone as well as our many adventurers and heroes. In response to the question of those who desire to aid in the defence of their homes but are not guards, or militia, or even heroes of any type a solution may quite be possible. After many hours of deliberation and discutions with a brilliant mage I belive we have a possible solution.
I dare say that though this idea is considered strange by many it is indeed quite possible to achieve. and with that I make my argument as so. Magic, a simple cantrip, in and of it'self is of little concern to any battle hardend veteran in Blood's army. However! multiply that cantrip by the number of residence in a city or fortress and you can quickly provide a deadly and overwhelming force of small, yet cumulative, strikes. There are many young wizards who are capable of producing large quantities of simple cantrips in the form of magic gems or wands.. even scrolls. A simple instruction lesson on the activations and targeting of these gems and we could have a barage avaiable from any window, door, portculis, or wall. Similary, equiping our armed forces with these wands would allow yet another oportunity. Striking the enemy with a full regement of Jolt or Ice Ray, could quickly overwhelm the mundane forces attempting to strike at our homes. Any remaining Foe would be outnumbered and severly weakened. Even the moment prior to the charge could be exploited for these means. Consider the moment Bloods forces begin the initial charge, a full regement of men activating a magic gem into the front ranks of the opposing force would have catastrophic effects. A secondary advantage would provide it's self in the form of tactical reprieve, should this stratagem prove exceptionaly brilliant, Blood would be forced to withdraw his forces to equip them with countermeasures... enough time I might add, that would allow us to requip our forces with alternative Cantrips, such as Acid Puff. I dare say this could prove to be a brilliant turning point in the war effort. Imagine the renewed intrest in the arcane when the war ends! Why I dare say that Mistone could very well become the Arcane learning center of the world!
You loyal subject,
