Freas Janra 6th, 1393:

Oslin, Xantril:

I made my way to Xantril for one simple reason, to help Derrick. So far, I am not sure what exactly I have done to help. We have camped in Oslin for a long time now, and nothing seems to be happening. The townspeople avoid us as if we are are plague-ridden, or bandits. The living conditions here are terrible, with little food and dirt and mud everywhere. The people live in poverty and fear.

It is like this all over Xantril. I've seen it. I saw the same thing in Tibum last time I was there. That sense of an invisible evil around you ... its permeable. Blood's spys could be watching us right now. His armies could come and execute us all. If we fail, the entire world will look like Oslin here.

It makes me long for home. It makes me appreciate that bowl of hot cereal I ate before I left, the voices of people going about their lives in peace, the faces of friends, children, strangers, pretty women ... I guess I didn't realize what I took for granted until I saw the people here. Life on Xantril is survival, and nothing more. The eyes of these people are empty of life. There is no love, no passion, only fearin these peoples eyes. It's all so reminiscint sometimes ... I've seen that look before ... the look of desperation and hopelessness ......... if we fail, all of Layonara will be like this city.
