    Emotes?
    « on: February 16, 2006, 04:49:50 AM »
    Hi all!

I'm brand-spankin' new to playing NWN online and am curious as to how emotes work.  I see that I have a little ditty in my character's inventory, perhaps someone could tell me how it works?

Also, is there a syntax in game for emotes?  Say, I want my character to bow - how do I do it?

Well, there are three ways to use emotes really. The first is with your "Emote Wand" which you get in your inventory. You'll see it has a special power; activating it will bring up a list of Emotes, fiddle around with it, there are some pretty cool ones.  :)  The other way to do it is to hit the Radial Menue. Fewer Emotes, but still spiffy and you can quickslot them if you like. And the last way is simply to put the **s around a verb. (Eg: How do you do? *Bows*) It's the universal way to emote something, and my personal favorite.

*smiles* emotes are put between asterixes .. or you can use the right-click menu for your character .. also there is the emote wand that has extra emotes on for layo.  this is great for continuous emotes like sitting, laying or praying for a period of time.

      *bows* and welcome to layo!

gah! *screams at zero* you beat me!

The ** emotes is a little bit buggy though (I'm always disabling it ;) )...

My favourite one is: *hesitates* (*he -sit- ates*) :D

The only emote I miss is picking something off the ground.

Is there another way of doing this other than dropping something and picking it up?

Oh, I need it a lot because I find myself feeding the kitten near the pond way to often with the fish I catch.

you can emote anything really, like:
*leans on his staff*, *scratches his beard*, *rolls his eyes*, *braids her hair* (won't actually see you character do all these things, but at least people know your char does something)

I prefer using and when others use written text emotes. They remain in the chatwindow.
I have a vague memory of that some of the animation emotes also print out a text, but
not all of them. Having the emotes saved in the chat window makes it a lot easier to
see what everyone is doing when in larger groups. Combining the two often gives the
      best impression, though.
