    Racial Hatred
    « on: March 14, 2006, 06:17:51 PM »
I know this is a family server and all things must be kept friendly, but how are characters supposed to handle racial hatreds. Rp is important and I know alot of people's characters have racial hatreds in character that they are afraid to act out because of backlash from other characters.

How is this supposed to be handled. Because I know conflict makes for good RP, if everyone is buddy buddy RP gets boring.

No need to be sorry, I was just saying there is probably a lot of opinion you can find on the subject if you dig around.

      Heyas,

Roleplayed racism and hate is fun if you know how to handle it.

Take Freldo for example, nobody likes him (armor, color, talks to much, whatever) yet he saved more lives than most people like to admit - even Jerei there got a few cure critical wounds and a large dose of cure light wound potions last night.  Like it or not, Freldo can get you out of sticky situations.

As a character, Ash wants to skin him, Renji put a knife to his neck and Jerei was a bit rude with him (that's just last night) but I know it's all part of the character.  No one has actually engaged him in PvP so I can assume there is no real world grudge against him, he's just to much for most people to handle and most characters act accordingly - which is why I love to play him.  Freldo's not me, he might be a characture of myself but he's still not me, so insulting him isn't insulting me - I really  laugh when people take pot shots at him and it means I'm doing a good job.

If this started with Jerei's comments at Honora, I would just like to point out that a little interaction player/player could make things clear, we're all part of the game and I think a little talking might avoid bad situations.

For example, in my case, when I started to develop my singled sided conviction that "Ash hates me", I dropped a little note to Zelda111 saying that it had been fun.  My bickering with Grympint was also followed but a tell saying that I'm gonna love arguing with him.  I don't think I made it clear enough to Honora's player that you were roleplaying it which was due to my (player) not wanting Freldo to die.

It's all fun and I think most of us invest quite a bit of time on our characters so nobody would do anything intentionaly that would end up in the filing of a grievence of griefing.

Talk things over folks, it's not that hard, nobody's intentionally a dumbass.

      Regarding Honora's leaving the Satyr Smooshing party on 03/14;

Just as an explaination, I did in fact ask a party member that seems to be in the know about such things whether the comments seemingly directed at Honora were RP or real.  I was assured that they were RP, and so I thought about how to deal with it.  If anyone read her backstory, Honora has been sheltered as a half-orc; first by the family that cared for her, then by the monk that trained her.  The person who slurred her and rejected her is her first time being so blatantly slapped with racism.  She did not know how to handle it, and so left to ponder why it was so.  She does not understand why anyone would hate her, or Stump, or Rakish for that matter.  Since it was also my bedtime right about then, having Honora leave, confused and angry, seemed the best decision based on her background (and get me into bed on time).

Changing said person's mind shall be a challenge indeed, but she's up to it.

And thank you Stump for chatting with me afterward /hugs.

Yea, I want to confirm that. It is purely RP. I have nothing against you, I don't dig the racism idea, but it is part of the RP of my character so to keep true, I have to act it out.

Yea, Munch is right. Freldo is annoying as h*ll. But his uses are undeniable so that is how he keeps getting let into parties!

:-D and Munch! quit telling people you save Jerei's life! SHHHH!!!

Freldo has never saved Jerei's life.

By "never" I mean "only a few times".   :D

It's all in fun, I love to just keep typing at my keyboard filling the screen with useless chit-chat while everybody else is concentrated on something, lightens the mood and makes him all that much fun.

          Ahem...

Cole's hand lotion is unresolved so far, but I haven't forgotten, I'm just waiting for a better hook to show up.  :D

Hear that?  Gimme a good hook and I'll bite, give me an even better hook and I'll make Acacea proud of hitting me with the Dominate Person spell.  :)

You know, come to think of it, I spend to much time role playing.  I need to find stuff to kill for XP and gold.  I still don't know how I made it to level 9 without being on any quests (except the T'oleflor one).

I cannot believe you titled a post "cole's hand lotion."

I should hurt you very severly for that, starting with the breaking of several digits to make typing more difficult in reminder not to type such things.  You know, us violent Texans and all...

*chuckles*  Bloody dominate person and halfling humor...

          *snickers*

I hope Acacea tells everybody and someone talks to Freldo about it...  I hear the occasional comment here and there but nobody asks him about it...  *sad face*

Poor Cole, his tough guy image is gonna go down like a flaming, explosive, suicidal gryphon because of aloe abuse.

          *sinister laugh*

*grins wickedly*  Cole doesn't have that "tough guy image" for nothing...  be wary, lest you summon the chaos within him...  *snickers*

Though, for fun, ask Cole about the whole ordeal... you might be surprised by his answer...

He's not gonna ask, at least for now since nobody's actually talked to Freldo about it.

He's seen little of Acacea since the incident*, and Cole, well... mixed feelings there, took him to the frozen north for no good reason (a single sapphire, poor fellow) and left him in a room alone with Ranewin.  Does Cole deserve a thank you for that?  :)

          * There was the trip to the Dragon Isles and the bartending fiasco and I'm sure she's getting a lot of milage from the bartending.
