    Turning vermin?
    « on: March 17, 2006, 11:03:22 AM »
Can anyone shed some light on this ability?  Hesa took the plant domain and the handbook says that he should be able to turn vermin like undead.   1) What are vermin?  2) Do you just use the turn undead ability?

    1) Vermin are spiders I believe. At least that's all I've ever heard as being classfied as Vermin. I believe some spiders also fall under Magical creatures so it's not all spiders, and it might include bugs as well. I'm not sure. 2) Check to see if it's a domain ability (Ie: A clerical ability off the radial) if not, just test out the Turn Undead, that is what I'd bet on.

Surely rats would be covered by this as well?

Nope. Vermin are insects and anything similar with usually no Int scores. You should be able to turn spiders, bugs, and all kinds of non-magical insects. Hope it helped :)

Alright thanks, I will try it out.  Didn't see anything on the same radial menu as turn undead.

you use the turn undead ability to turn vermin (basically your turn undead was given a dual function by plant domain.)

      Vermin:

"These creatures operate on instinct, driven by simple needs such as food and reproduction. Except where noted, vermin attack only when hungry or threatened.

Vermin Traits: Vermin possess the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).

—Mindless: No Intelligence score, and immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects).

      —Darkvision out to 60 feet.

—Alignment: Always neutral. Vermin are not governed by a human sense of morality.

—Treasure: Vermin generally possess no treasure. For those that do, this treasure consists of possessions formerly owned by a creature that the monster has killed."

      Vermin include:

Spiders (barring ones that are magical beasts such as Aranea, hallow wraith spiders i think, and bebliths that are demons not spiders.)
Beetles (stag beetles, fire beetles, bombadier beetles)
      Ants
Mosquitos (mosquito swarms should be vermin I believe)
      Wasps

Can't think of any more... and I think formians are probably... monstrous humanoids.
