As Khord slumps down into his roomm in the Wild Surge he thinks back on the new experiences he had since arriving in Hlint. The time spent in the bustling town was nothing like he had anticipated. All the chaos that seemed the norm in Hlint was a far cry from the orderly lives lived in dwarven communities.
Reflecting on those he had met Khord was forced to give Garent consideration. An admirably dedicated chap who seemed genuinely to care about his job, however there was just something off about him.Though Khord was in no position to say what it was, he was certain that there was indeed something wrong there.
The Quartermaster seemed also a devoted soul, and unlike Garent exuded more of an aura of competance.
The crypts in the town were awful. The Church shold really be informed on just how out of control the undead were there. And the undertaker, what was with him? Well, whatever it was it is entorely understandable that anyone forced to do his work down ther might get a little touched in the head and have more need of drinking throughout the day than most. Though loathe to admit it aloud, something about the undead truly unsettled Khord as well.
Then there were the others that made Hlint either their home, or at least their place of gathering. Two in particular came to mind. The first wasa Toranite Paladin named Marius who seemed a most upstanding sort, if not a bit hard on himself. The other was what Khord could only assume was a big game hunter given the lion skins that he hauled about named Talen.
Khord had even briefly met another dwarf while travelling with the others. this dwarf was also a Cleric of Toran. He had just acquired a wondrous cloak from a furrier named Johan. Apparently the dwarf had been required to spend many hours stalking and hunting a brown bear to come by this cloak. Khord wasn't sure how he felt about that. He had seen plenty of bears in his time. They were majestic creatures of both power and grace. If they weren't hurting anyone, then why were they being hunted? It would be understandable if it had been for survival, but active hunting of such for a frivolous gain (even though the cloak was admittedly of great quality) seemed off.
After getting comfortable in a clean sleeping gown Khord sat at a small table in his room and began his first report back to the Church.
Herein lies the First report of Khord Stoneweaver, initiate of the Order of Battle Priests on detached duty, may the Father of Battle continue to grant us victory in these days of unease.
I must make report that upon arriving at Hlint all was rather peaceful. However there is an infestation of undead in the crypts there that feels most unholy. Furthermore, efforts to cleanse the place seem to go wasted as the undead continue to rise.
The countryside west of Hlint is infested with Goblins. Furthermore, I am convinced that someone is actually taking time to train these savages in the ways of warfare. These are not simply filthy beasts with pointy sticks, they have skill in archery, and worse yet, in the use of poisons and vile arcane magics.
I must report that with the help of a toranite Paladin named Marius and another of his companions named Talen, that we did in fact purge some nearby mines of a great number of those goblins. However, these filth are also mighty in number, and we found ourselves overwhelmed trying to reach the surface. Vorax be praised though, as just as things were going bad the Father of Battle sent to us a band of reinforcements to help cleanse the caves.
Speaking on the human named Marius, it should be noted by the church that he with no thought of self-gain, and without prompting, leant a great hand to a humble servant of the Church of Vorax. Through his skill and his generosities I have learned a great deal in the art of melee fighting agianst superior numbers, and am now better equipped to deal with such situations. He seems most distressed about his position due to the previous actions of one of his order named Remiel Delmir. though this Remiel did in fact commit some heinous acts, it should be noted that Marius perhaps takes too much on himself in blame. His true aid to one of the Church should not be overlooked. I ask that he be added for a short time to the daily prayers of the Church that Vorax may hear of him from more than just my lips. Perhaps then Vorax can bestow upon him a sense of ease that he does not get from Toran.
I must also write that my experienes within the mines caves near Hlint have stirred something within me. I find myself drawn to these places of the earth. As a result I shall follow the guiding of my heart and see what service I can provide here until such time as I am called elsewhere by the esteemed leadership of the Church.
With Respect,
Khord Stoneweaver
