    barbarian movement speed
    « on: March 27, 2006, 01:18:24 PM »
Not sure if anyone else is having this problem....my characters movement speed goes in and out for periods of time. Weight does not seem to be the cause of the problem though. Usually it only lasts for periods of 20mins. or so then the "movement speed increased" icon comes back up near the character portrait and the speed seems to work right from then on.

I see some weird cyclic behavior too, not exactly the same but like this. If Sen is overloaded and walking back to Hlint with some stuff, there will be a period of time when all the sudden he goes on overdrive for a bit and after that he goes back to the right (slow) speed. And I always notice some weird periodic cycling of that speed indicator in the corner, it just doesnt always have a visible effect on the character's speed, I notice the effect when he's supposed to be slowed.

Maybe there's some effect that periodically turns off speed modifications for a while - making Sen go faster if he should be slowed and the barbarian go slower if he should be accelerated?

I've noticed that when you leave a road, pass through a normal speed area, then walk back in a road, the speed modifier applies again, boosting your character's speed. Coupled with monk speed bonus, Lucius runs like a bullet sometimes. Maybe this is what causes the movement boost?

As for the cycling, roads augment your speed at regular intervals, in order to maintain you speedier at roads only. If it lasted longer, a step in a road would make you faster for more time outside it. Did this make sense? :P

OK, I paid attention to this road thing and that's probably what I've been seeing. The effect of the road is probably most noticeable if you're loaded down and I do see that that's what makes the weird behavior on the movement icon in the top corner. Never knew that.

Cant speak for the barbarian...hope he can speak for himself. *grins*

Yes thats exactly what has been happening in game to me...and it does make sense that the "speed-ups" have occured at random times, do to certain conditions. Thanks for both of your comments.
