Thomas, Paladin of the Gold Dragon
    « on: April 16, 2006, 10:40:49 AM »
My journal begins after a few diverse episodes in the small country town of Hlint.  My memories are already quite scrambled, so I now realize that I need to set down these events so that I may better analyze the cause & effects, and maybe some other folks will gain a benefit from my travails.
My Lord and liege, Rofirein, honors knowledge ... and my education has now truly begun.  This can be seen as the third, and most significant "chapter" of my life: my first fourteen years were spent within the majesty of the depths of High Forest with my druidess mother, Lyllyth, and my twin sister, Sylvia.  The essential, inevitable cycles of life were a daily awareness in the grandeur of nature's woodlands; nevertheless, although ever absent, my father's wanderlust (a Knight of the Wyrm named Terry) consistently plagued my soul ... and the Gold's Eye seemed to call me out.
My initiation at the Temple of Rofirein took just over four years encompassing arduous combat training, tedious library research emphasizing legal jurisprudence, medical techniques for healing, and the code of conduct for the path of Rofirein.  While I stumbled with various missile weapons, my focus on melee encounters was invigorating (especially with the dragon's favored bastard sword)!  At first, I chose to protect the "homestead" as a palace guard; however, my father still whispers in my blood & soul ... so, I have recently embarked as a Knight of the Wyrm ... a paladin for the Gold Dragon.
What a remarkable moment, to be yanked out of context to be facing a dragon!!  So, I have a been given a specific focus: confront & defeat this Bloodstone plague poisoning our world.
After some awkward, dysfunctional forays, yesterday I took some enormous steps forward ... thanks especially to two distinctive individuals: Ifion Witseeker and Tegan (my heart flutters just writing her name).
Ifion is a remarkable bard who led me far from "home" (Hlint) ... all the way to the incredible city of Hampshire!  His song, his double-blade, and a celestial dog helped us overcome several nasty encounters (RUN from griffons protecting their brood!!).  As a true friend and veteran entrepreneur, he introduced me to the halfling merchants: armor, weapons, and various equipment of good quality for MUCH less than the Hlint merchants.  However, beware the glitter of the temple of Deliar: to heal a minor scar costs more than a full set of armor!!  No wonder my Lord, Rofirein, disapproves of this glitzy sect!
Now to the most important moment, Ifion introduced me to Tegan.  What a wondrous creature ... exuding magic and mystery.  As we wandered onward to the Rofirein temple in Fort Valensk (much more appropriate altar for my bindstone!), my heart's inspiration introduced me to several impressive comrades in a group called Farstriders: the dynamic Aeridin priest, Jin Lun Lee (what a remarkable tale versus the lizardmen); the nimble, merry rogue, Berilu (her teasing made me blush, often); and the confident discipline of the veteran warrior, Xandria.  Each in their own way enlightened me to the demands and mirth of teamwork; nevertheless, it was my lingering moments alone with my sorceress that truly enflamed my soul (she's a pretty good cook, as well ... better than Mom!!)!!  Now I flounder like a fish out of water wondering if I will ever know the almost overwhelming intensity such as the torrents of a raging river!?!
For now, until the Gold's Eye gives me further direction, I must focus on developing my holy warrior skills ... and just maybe earn some time among the Farstriders.
