OOC:
First off, I would just like to say "Thank you" to all those who came to the Leilon Arms last night for our "Night of Tales" and the collection to Roldem. As I, and others have said before, the Leilon Arms is a labour of love, and I am always happy on a successful and fun night of RP that there are the pc's in the world that make somthing like this possible.
With that said however, I was very sad to hear of folks sending others ooc tells during the stories telling them "to be quiet" ... Atleast on a couple of levels I know this broke the immersion of the night to some, as well as ruininga bit of fun for others.
--- So that brings me to, what is ediquette forwhen hearing a story- ---
In my opninion, if a character is talking during a story and it bothers you, I wouldcertainly ask that it be dealt with IC (as it was in some cases). Some characters won't have respect for the story teller, some won't realize they are talking loud enough for others to hear, and some don't realize there is a story going on at all (It is a tavern, afterall.. not a concert hall).
All this I understand completely... and in most cases it can (and should be!) be solved in an IC fashion, with no need to break immersion and spoil the fun of others.
Next, its important to realize that your character cannot hear emotes. They are actions. So while they do interrupt the text of the story, there is nothing that can be done IC. For that, its up to the players to use their judgement. I would hate as a story teller to stand on the stage and have nobody say or do anything.... but at the same time spamming the chat with emotes can make the story difficult to follow. So this is just somthing to consider. I do not feel we had this problem last night though.
Last night, if anything, I think there could have been many more reactionary emotesfrom the crowd and it would have been okay without disrupting the stories - if anything.. it only makes the mood and the RP more believeable.
But in conclution: - Please keep it IC, use your judgement, and occ tells for people to be quiet are a big no no in most cases I can think of. Then we can all be happy and I can getback to spending time making up silly things for Kali to do instead of posting posts like this*grins*
Thanks - LV, Kali

Reactionary emotes are good, talking during stories always needs an IC bottle tossed at the head. Heh.

The convention is that if you wish to have a conversation during a performance, you whisper (/w). Funny, it's just like you would do in real life if you were in a movie theatre, a play, or any other performance save a rock concert (during which just the opposite of whispering is expected. gotta love a good rock concert).

And if you still don't want to disturb others just party up with the person you want to whisper with and talk in party chat.
Just RP the whispering... that way you don't have to read the gray text (for me anyway) and people at nearby tables
are not disturbed from their immersion.
I think the merchants did a fantastic job of selling their things while Acacea was telling her story last night.

Ehm.. yeah, but I noticed you can't whisper when you use a language ear. I tried to hold the conversation with Ael in whisper, we were talking orcish, but i came out loud.

Hmm...well...Gem is a very...social gnome and I play him as such. Before he went to the Arms he talked to about 15 different people, which he had never met before, in about 10 minutes. He will talk to ANYONE. If he saw a dragon, he would try and strike up a conversation with it. He will interrupt, asks a lot of questions and tries to be friendly.
Now when he entered the Arms, he honestly didn't know a story was in progress so he was a bit premature in his 'Hellos'. But to me, that is like when you enter a meeting late, which you do not know that you are late too, and you are laughing at the guy behind you as you enter. Everyone stops what they are doing and all heads turn in your direction. You just freeze in your steps and wonder, "What in the world have I just done and…wow, I am in the spotlight." You try to gather your composure and find your way to your seat. It happens! It is real life and real life experiences should be brought into the game to try and make the game feel real and add dimension. (So sending me a tell telling me to be quiet is like Lalaith said, unappreciated. I did not mean to be RUDE to Acacea or anyone else.)
Also, thanks to Jennara for playing along. When Gem saw a man with wings...WOW, a man with wings. Gem was very excited and wanted to express what he has seen. He whispered to Jennara and she responded back. Thanks! Now I (the player) know who Plenarius is and I know who plays him. But to Gem, a gnome that is new to the Surface, is just amazed that a man has wings. He had to let someone know what he saw.
And then there was the applause that was unintentionally given during a long pause in the story. Now who has not DONE that in real life? *Raises hand* I have and was very embarrassed by it. But the people on the stage just kept going. Some people will laugh, some will get mad, and some will even lean over to their friend and say, "Can you believe that guy?" That is REAL life. That is what makes life fun and exciting. That is what is SO good about Layonara! People bringing real life experiences into the game for everyone to experience and hopefully enjoy. If I was embarrassed about an event in RL, then I may even act it out IG for some laughs. The game should resemble life...imperfect, flawed, and unrehearsed. If not, then it would be a boring game. I want the unexpected behaviors, the goof ups, the hecklers, the people that boo and the people that cheer. I welcome it!
To the person that sent me the tell...I like to think that the tell was for the consideration of Acacea. If it was just for you, then it was inappropriate. Nothing major though; a learning experience for the player.
And then there was Gem’s return to the Arms later in the evening. The door was open and his belly was rumbling. Gem walked in on Plenarius, Lalaith, Jennara and one other. Gem was obviously disturbing (I, the player thought) but Gem, whom was guided by his belly, was not so quick to pick it up. They very politely told him that they were in a meeting and the Arms was closed. *two thumbs up* No tells, which are to the player and not the character, were sent. It was all done IG. I just wanted to mention this last little bit because Lalaith does practice what she has mentioned here. And believe me, there were NO hard feelings or misunderstandings. She kept it IG and it did not send a message to the player (not the character) to excuse them.
