portrait change
« on: June 02, 2006, 11:49:11 PM »
I'm thinking of getting an other portrait for my character Sonya DarkAngel.  BUT I don't know how to go about it. Should i ask A DM/GM in-game or should I send a PM to someone.  AND how much trouble would I cause with such a request.
Does someone have to go trough a lot of trouble or is it easy to do.
I wanna get these anwsers first before I make up my mind to or not to change the portrait.

Post your request in disputes/grievances.

the old answer would be that its a bit of work to do, and requires one of the busiest people to do it (those with server vault access.)

HOWEVER, since 1.67 we have a SetPortrait() function (thats how the flashy skull portrait when you're bleeding to death works) so it may be that a way to do this IG much more easily has been set up.

I'll leave answering that question to someone more informed than myself.

The information you will need to get this done regardless of the answer to the previous question is the filename of the portrait you wish to have it changed to. If the portrait is already in your portraits folder this can be a bit of a pain to find. The way I usually do it is search for all .tga files in the portrait folder ending in "s". Then open them all in an image viewing program and scan visually. Still a bit of a pain but you only have to open and scan through 1/5 the number of images. The reason for the "s" is that then you're looking at all the small portraits (party bar size) which will open a lot quicker when you open them in your image viewing program than if you were opening the "h" (huge) or "l" (large) files.

I'll wait for someone to explane the SetPortrait() function. I'm not sure If we the players are alowed to use it in game since it sounds like part of those functions witch also alow you to get exp, en al that.

Anyway, i'm not that bothered by my current portrait, it's just that I would like to get an other portrait thats a Little more uniek. and the files are somewere on my computer waiting to be found and placed in the portrait folder of NWN.

I believe he referred to a DM action, that only DM's can use. Its not common for players to have such powers.
