The defeat of Bloodstone and the State of the World
« on: June 24, 2006, 09:28:19 PM »
The word quickly spreads about the heroes’ victory over Blood and thus the end of the war as it is known. The war that lasted 61 years is now over and the heroes are victorious. As you look around though you wonder at what cost? Around 2/3 of the world has been destroyed or placed in to chaos, over 6,000,000 have lost their lives through the decades. Only Mistone and Voltrex remain mostly untouched. Dregar was mostly void of the conflict except for a few times through the decades. But in the past two years as well as the passing of the king it has fallen in to chaos and rampaging bandits and questionable organizations are beginning to rise up and take control over sections of the land. Pranzis has fallen to a General of Bloodstone and now that Bloodstone is defeated what will come of this? There exist less than 8,000,000 citizens in the world across all races, cultures and all lands as well as the non-surface dwelling creatures.
You look around and look up in to the dark sky as you think about the lost lives and the changes in the world. You study the sky for several days on end and slowly draw the conclusion that the sun is now hidden under a large dark mass of dust and debris. The days and nights grow cold and the land becomes darker. The rain around the world turns to snow in many locations and all across the world the temperature drops by several degrees and in quite a few locations by ten degrees or more. After several weeks of watching the sky become thicker and darker with dust and seeing less of the sun rays that all have grown accustomed to you realize that Layonara is now in a minor ice age of sorts. An ice age caused by the very heroes that saved the world from Bloodstone and ended the war. An ice age that will surely bring more death, uncertainty, and chaos to the world of Layonara. While the temperature is not frigidly cold everywhere the ice caps grow in size. Farming and rising livestock becomes more difficult. The once civilized citizens start going hungry and begin to do whatever they need to do in order to support their families and survive. The rulers of the land find their taxes are lacking, the livestock and crops lacking, and soldiers deserting their post in order to bring their family to better places or to protect their families. Bandits rise and become quite common, nefarious organizations begin to grow in power as the struggle for existence turns to living in a harsh and cold environment. To top that all off it seems that many officers from the various military structures are vying for power in their given region of influence.
A few days later as you look up in the dust filled and darkened sky you see dust shifting backing and forth and suddenly out of the dust and debris burst several dragons on the hunt. To your amazement you see that they are chromatic dragons. It dawns on you that these dragons were either hiding very well or they have returned to Layonarasomehow. But you are clearly aware that dragons are now freely walking the world once again.
A month passes and the leaves from trees begin to fall as if it was Autumn’s Harvest and plants begin to wilt and fade as if were Winter Deep, or as the goblins call it ‘Famine’. With the passing of the green leaved plants the wildlife in the world begins to die off and as the smaller animals pass on the larger animals have less to eat and they themselves begin to pass on or invade the civilized areas in order to survive. While it is not a deep freeze it does get cold enough to cause pain and suffering across the entire world and with that comes the horror and fear of survival in a world where there is not enough to eat. Not all plants and animals die off but the living conditions are much more difficult than any have seen before and nature is the first to feel the effects.
You are now in the Dark Ages of Layonara. You settle in to survive and ensure the world is not destroyed by those that fight for their right to live.

Awesome synopsis and ... prelude to the next chapter?  Sounds like we need more Druids!

Thanks for creating such a rich and varied world Leanthar!  Thanks again for this very post, players like myself who can not go on many quests because of RL really appreciate it.  I makes me feel like I am still involved!

You rock!  Thanks for all your work, in my opinion, you should be very proud of yourself!  I'm proud of you!
