    Cut scene
    « on: July 01, 2006, 12:32:05 PM »
Why do we have a cut scene for everyone when someone perms that freezes the screen of every player, right in the middle of battle?  This is a good way to kill lots of others.

Because its cool when it works.

You are toggled invulnerable during the course of the cutscene so you cannot be damaged in any way shape or form

That is correct, this is tried and tested. What happent is most likely that the cutscene woar off in the middle of the server crash, and after the cutscene is over you not invulrable anymore, and therefore you died.

When a Cut scean starts, if there is combat, i log. Not going to risk having my invulnerablity ware off when there are 5 people hitting me.

It seems most of the party crashed, I know I did.  Heck, it crashed the server. If it is so cool, make a movie and let people download it.

You crashed because the server crashed.

Which may or may not be even remotely related to the cutscene.

"...Why do we have a cut scene for everyone when someone perms that freezes the screen of every player, right in the middle of battle? This is a good way to kill lots of others...."

First and foremost that cutscene does NOT crash a server. It has happened often enough that we know that for a fact.

Second of all unless I am mistaken when the scene happens all action is frozen except for the camera.

Thirdly the server has not crashed today so I have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps you crashed due to nwn/driver/video issue but the server did not crash. I did reset the server 9.5 hours ago but it did not crash (it was up 24 hours before that) and has been up since the reset.

Sorry to see that this irritated you so much when you had no adverse effects, no loss of xp, no dt, nothing.

@Force, One person permed due to GM error and hit has since been resolved.

When it happened, on my screen (since I was the one that permed and it all focused on me) all PCs disappeared including mine, but The NPC Drow were still visible and continued to attack empty space(with numbers appearing overhead, mostly zero, but many were not zero too) as my camera rotated, I even saw one drow drop dead near where my character fell (either indicating PCs were still attacking back, or the drow was attacking a person with Elemental shield), engulfed in flames halfway through the cutscene.

As for the server crashing, the Quest Server was meant, not the normal Central Server.

This is the best i can explain as to what I saw in the sequence of events.

Interesting. We will look in to the combat thing as that clearly is not a good thing if others around are able to combat.

This is the second time I have been in a party when someone perm'd.  Both times were during pretty intense combat.  I have yet to see the cut scene since both times the camera froze and all PCs dissapeared.  Then for about a full minute after that the camera moved very slowly and jumped a bit as if it was trying to show something but I didn't see any soul mother or anything else.  I have had the scene described to me and it sounds pretty cool.  Both times were also inside cave areas.  One in the bottom of troll central and the today in the rift.  I had thought it might have something to do with the camera movement in tight quarters.  The first time I didn't crash and this time today I got the server timed out message and had to log back in.  Not sure if the whole server crashed but many people got kicked off.  The final bit of info that I noticed today was that when the scene started the camera immediately shifted to directly over head looking straight down at the ground.  Don't know if any of this helps but just thought I would give some detail in case it would help troubleshoot the problem.  I thought it was just me until I heard D blaze's description.  Thanks.
