Possible bug with my light amulet
« on: July 10, 2006, 02:11:11 PM »
When ever i have my panther hide armor or my modified mage robe the light emitted by my amulet is greatly diminished. I have tried a cleric robe that was giving to me and the light is normal when wearing that. When i switched back to my panther hide armor the light grew dim again. Don't know if this is a bug or if it is intentional.

I think this is something with how Bioware applies light emitters from a PC. Only one emitter can function at a time, and I -think- it's the one most recently applied. It's been a good 6-9 months at least since this question has come up, so I may not be remembering correctly.
Try this: With your panther armor on, unequip and re-equip your amulet and observe what the lighting does.

I did that a lot of time and it does'nt change.  I know that when ever the captain in hlint or anyone using a spell that is more powerful than my amulet the light sometimes flickers, but what im talking about is that if i change robes or go in my underpants my light will glow as it supose to do. but when I put the mage robe and the panther hides its as if I have a 5m enchantement on a weapon which I dont have anymore.

  Yeah its weird like that.

the manner in which vfx funciton is a hardcoded thing that we can't mess with.

This particular instance has something to do with the light effect being applied to a point somewhere in your torso and it considering that some clothing models blocking light (so your shadow reflects what you're wearing) buut since the light is emmanating from somewhere in your torso it blocks it from getting out somewhat.

Thats my theory at least ;)

I would understand if the light was blocked by my body in my back but when even in front the light is dimmer by a large amount i think it is pretty odd.  When I had a simple leather armor it did not do that it is only since I have had this Panther hide that it has started to do that.

Its weird. There's nothing we can do about it.

RL physics has absolutely no bearing on how it was coded. It will continue to behave the same way whether it makes sense to anyone or not.

I had this problem a few months ago when trying to equip the nifty belt mods for a Human Male model (Leather armor from the vendors, if you're curious). Basically, what it looked like was if I had the belt customization, the light went from a normal ambience to looking more like someone had shone a spotlight at my face.

It was weird, but I don't get the problem anymore. *He shrugs.* Wish I'd reported that...
