New computer...new problems...so it seems

Hello there,
It has been a while since I have been able to run around Layonara, and now that things in RL have settled a bit I thought I might be able to put some time into my char again. If I can even find the char sheet I kept in this mess of an apartment I now call home.
Well to make a long story short(er), I have a newly put together computer, downloaded and upgraded everything I can think of but all I do is crash when I try and log into Layonara. Actually, I also crash part way throught the intro movie for NWN also, I just tried it, just as he climbs up the last step where the Mino is about to stand up.
This isn't my first time through this setup, I even went so far as to reinstall Windows, since it was newly put together there was nothing to loose but time
I am sure I am forgetting something simple, I just need you guys to tell me what it is I guess...cause I can't figure it out at this point.
Lets see what do I have on this computer...
Windows XP Pro SP2
Soundblaster Audigy
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Catalyst 6.7 drivers)
1G of RAM
P4 2.9GHz
Asus MB
DirectX 9.0c
Anyone got any ideas?
edit: lol so long away my post counter reset heh

Make sure you have the latest video driver for your video card, very important. I would also suggest disabling shadowing to see if that helps.

Thanks L but it doesn't seem to be THAT easy *sighs*
I've done pretty much everything from 'all the bells and whistles' to 'nothing special' graphic settings wise, disabled and enabled various things 4x and 8x AGP settings...shadowing...catalyst AI etc etc. I am still trying really, but I don't want to keep on trying to connect and crashing...just in case it somehow effects the server...
I get the loading screen for the module...the bar zips across to load and then I get the windows error box....is there any possability that something on my old char, Oyrn, might be crashing me...I was trying to get rid of an old helm I had from an old quest just before I left...just a thought.

Wow, not sure how, but I'm in...thanks.
Edit : I applied the critical rebuild, for a second time, and that seemed to work....

Check the Neverwinter Nights website at nwn.bioware.com. I don't remember exactly the soundcard, but i do remember that certain soundcards and drivers in particular caused problems. There is also a troubleshooting guide on atari's website.
Make sure all your windows updates are done, and maybe try re-downloading and installing the Layo haks with a fresh NWN install. It's possible something got corrupted during downloading and updating/installing.
EDIT: a little late, you're in now. BUT, just in case it happens again...

I have to run NWN on my xp partition, my win2k pro always locks up on NWN when it starts, the only other time this happens is when I use anything with java on win2k. It's possible that your system and mine have the same problem (which, I have no idea why, my java is all updated).
I'm not sure what you can do, just voicing that I have a similar problem...oh, everything is updated on mine as well and the tech support guys for NWN can't figure it out either.
My only suggestion...low level format. Try a fresh new install. Before you update to the very latest video drivers, try to install & run the game. I know it sounds wierd, but try it...also BEFORE you do that, configure it (NWN) not to run any sound; I've had other games crash till I just outright turned the sound off(in the game).

Thanks for the ideas guys, I guess when I did the critical rebuild before it didn't quite take?? Just because it was about the only thing I could think of that I hadn't done twice I decided to try applying it again, so I downloaded it and applied it a second time....and the next time I tried to log in it let me in...strange.

Could have just been a faulty install of the game itself that the crit rebuild didn't take care of the first time *shrugs*
Also got to make sure the sound drivers are up to date with NWN, game seems to consider it a big deal LOL glad ye fixed it
