WARNING - Citizens of Hlint
« on: September 29, 2006, 07:53:43 AM »
*Posted outside of the Wild Surge Inn*  - WARNING -  To all citizens and those traveling to Hlint!  There has been an attack outside the west gate of Hlint a few hours ago. It looks as though a new clan of goblins are on the move and might be threatening to attack Hlint. They are stronger, faster and more powerful than the clan of goblins that normally inhabit the Red Light Caves. In addition, they have powerful shamans skilled in necromancy in their ranks. Please be careful in your travels to and from Hlint because there is a strong possibility for future attacks. Thank you.  Signed, Tera Blake, Earth Priestess of Grannoch

*A note is posted to the door, with no signature, in a deliberately vague hand*

Where was Captain Garent throughout this attack?  In this dark time we need increased vigilance around our frontiers to ensure that this road remains open from Haven to Blackford and beyond.  If our officials will not do the job, who will?

Another note is posted beside the first note.

A boy and his mother was ambushed by some goblins on the road just west of Hlint. The child managed to flee into the town and he's safe at his home in Haven now. His mother's fate, though, was more worse. She was wounded and captured by the goblins, and by the time I reached her, she no longer showed any signs of life.

What surprised me was to find her whole body covered by magical runes. I probed the weave and found necromancy strands lingering in the air, and before I could remove them, she was raisen as a living corpse. Thanks to lady Elohanna's help, the boy's mother was once again back to her eternal sleep. I put the ashes, which were the only trace left of her body, into a urn and gave it to the child, asking him to take it to his grandmother for proper burial. Deaths are horrible, but still part of the Great Cycle and should honored.

This event makes me wonder... Is this part of a bigger plot? Goblins assulting innocent people to practice necromancy and Storan himself being seen outside his crypt. Something is surely not right here!

I would suggest everyone living in or close to Hlint to be extra careful while being outside. Like, only staying in crowded places and not leaving the road while travelling.

    Signed,
    Alleina

    *tacked to the unsigned note*

    Sir or Madam,

Had you spoken with Captain Garent of his duties, you would have learned that his charge is the town of Hlint itself.  Further, a disturbance beyond one gate may simply be a diversion before an assault through other gates.  If the Captain were to leave town to aid travellers, or send forth his men to assist, and such an attack should occur, he would be rightly tried for abandoning his post and leaving the town open to attack.

Travellers know of the dangers on the roads, and they know that precautions should be taken, especially in these dark times.  In addition, Hlint is brimming with those eager individuals who call themselves 'adventurers' and make it their business to crush goblin uprisings and patrol roads.  This is the time for those would-be heroes to act beyond the walls of the towns with the same determination and indefatigability of Captain Garent.

    *Q reads the note*

Even the goblins are taking up necromancy now.  I need more Undead Slayers, the war with Blood, and the war with the Undead army a few weeks backs has hurt us.  *Sighs*  May Toran protect us and guide us with his light....

    *attached to Jennara's note*

The issue was not that Captain Garent did not help during the goblin attacks.  But rather, during the attacks when someone was sent to warn the town,  he was nowhere to be seen.  This is by no means an accusation..  only an observation.
