Hyacinth,

I am comforted knowing you have shed your physical self and melded with the Weave, but I miss you nonetheless. I will write these letters to you just to let you know that Lucinda blesses me daily and I remain steadfast in my defense of her glory.
I found the two clerics I was sent to work with by the Threadmistress.  They are strong and one of them (a male name Galen) can even wield the Weave like a mage. I’m not sure if I will be able to serve them like I served you, but I will try. This town is a very sad place; the Lady’s greatness is buried under a clamoring cloud of petty disputes and posturing.  And most people are so rude!  Manners seem to have been left out of there makeup.  The Threadmistress’ admonition to be more than a bodyguard for wielders has remained with me, but I’ve struggled to find my place.  I even began to toy with the idea of surrendering to the advances of one very persistent, handsome and kind man named Exodus (of the Stonecutter clan).  Giving up this idea that I could be something important, both a dwarf and a true protector in the service of the Lady of Spells.  As I surfaced just this morning from time in the local crypts trying in vain to teach manners to the undead, Lucinda answered my prayers.  Lady Matilda has agreed to take me on as her squire.  It seems that I will be more than just a meat shield, more than just another dwarf who failed on the path to serve our beautiful mistress and the wondrous weave she gave us.  I will be a true Protector of the Weave. I will learn to allow it’s glory to shine in our dark and confusing world. I’m sure there will be many more joyous letters to follow.

In Her blessed Light and Love,
Flare, Protector

Hyacinth,

I’ve been thinking a lot about my first encounter with Lady Matilda. She is the second protector I’ve met so far – Master Storold had to come rescue me when I used the wrong bindstone and ended up in the middle of the desert.  But Lady M is the first to actually see potential in me since you.
You always taught me that manners where of the foremost importance. We are indeed not stuffy hypocrites like the Toranites, but we do have to practice civility. In fact, I’ve made it my mission to teach manners to everyone from the master less undead who roam the crypts, to fellow adventurers I encounter in the streets of the town.  I had wrongly assumed that blatantly working the weave in the presence of  civilians could only serve to scare them into believing that maybe the dwarves were right – the weave is something to fear. But Matilda corrected my view and reminded me that as protector, we must create the ability for people to show the glorious greatness of the weave at all opportunities.  People should see the Weave in all of its glory.
I am lucky. I will learn.
