Even in 3.0, items made of Mithril DID NOT RECEIVE ANY ENHANCEMENT BONUS.

All they got was the following:
- Armor Type reduced to a minimum of Light
- AC check penalty reduced by 4
- Weight halved
- Max Dex Bonus increased by 2
- Spell failure reduced by (I think) 25%

So... For a set of Mithril Fullplate, you'd end up with the following stats:
Medium armor, AC 8, Armor Check -6, 25lbs, Max Dex 3, Spell Failure 50%

Likewise, a suit of mithril chainmail (usually referred to as Elven Chainmail) would have the following stats:
Light armor, AC 5, Armor check -1, however many pounds, Max Dex 4, Spell Failure - (I believe).

A mithril weapon didn't confer any bonuses except to be lighter, and be harder to destroy.

So I'm guessing this doesnt apply to Layonara?  Or are there such things as Mithril Items craftable or otherwise in Layo?

Chain shirts did in fact change from Medium to Light between 3.0 and 3.5. However!

Even in 3.0, items made of Mithril DID NOT RECEIVE ANY ENHANCEMENT BONUS.

- Armor Type reduced to a minimum of Light
- AC check penalty reduced by 4
- Weight halved
- Max Dex Bonus increased by 2

Yeah, this is/was the PnP rule (or close enough to it, I don't have the sources in front of me.)

However, in NWN base armor type statistics are immutable with the exception of spell failure and weight which can be adjusted via the weight reduction and reduced spell failure properties.

Base armor class, max dex bonus and proficiency category (light/medium/heavy) can not be modified.

Well, to be 100% acurate, they can be, but it takes a bunch of work and doesn't even work right heh.

People sell their first borns for an extra 3 AC?... :O
Meh, technically a Mithril chainmail is only better by 1AC compared to a copper fullplate :/ if you take into consideration max dex bonus, otherwise they're the same.

The extra AC isn't all... There are... umm... some other bonuses too. :P

If you think that's silly, you better not hear about people who are selling their souls for a mithril weapon (which is no better than a copper weapon at all, due to the fact that GMW exists). :)

Buuut... These are only pure mechanical benefits.

You miss the most important aspect by only looking at what bonuses the weapon gives: Coolness.

If you run around saying that you are using a copper fullplate, people will laugh at you and/or think you are mad ("huh?"). On the other hand... If you run around with a Mithril Chainmail... People will most probably be "Oooooh"-ing instead! :D

Same goes for the Mithril weapons!

(That's why a lot of expensive things "aren't really worth it", but still, people would trade their grandmother for them!)

GMW = shorthand for Greater Magic Weapon, an arcane spell available to most arcane spellcasters that temporarilly boost's the attack bonus of the target weapon.

That's the ENHANCEMENT bonus, not just attack bonus.

Enhancement adds to attack and damage.

CNR can't be told OOC. So you are outta luck. Maybe look for pesky dark skinned elves. I hear They have all the cool stuff.
