Armor Crafting Question
« on: January 03, 2007, 10:06:19 AM »
I'm not sure if it's possible or not, since i havent been crafting i game yet, but I the Vanilla Neverwinter Nights there s a suit of light armor thats chain mail.  Can such a suit be crafted?  Or is there even one available in game?  In NWN it was called Aslyferund Elven Chain and counted as Type 1 Light armor.  Just curious

actually i think there is a chainmail that's light armor, if not then medium armor, but at any rate, it takes both cotton and copper ingots to make lemme see if i can dig up anything...

It had better.  Mithril in NWN2 is light in strong just like Tolkien made it out to be, so If someone could make a suit of Mithril Chain that would be awesome

There are mithril armors circulating in game...

It's just a matter of having completely insane amount of gold, a persuade skill of 100+ and lots of halfling luck to find anyone willing to sell theirs. :P

There is no chain mail in NWN that is light armor. Period.

However there is a Padded Armor named Asyferund Elven Chain.

This is because NWN2 uses D&D 3.5 rules where Chain Shirts are light armor.

NWN1 uses 3.0 rules where they are medium armor.

Blame WotC (at least I think that is a 3.0 difference not just an NWN difference.)

It is listed in the incorrect section then.

The heaviest armor that is still considered light armor for purposes of armor proficiency etc. in NWN are the 3/4 armors. Studded Leather Armor and Hide Armor.

There are appearances for the lgiht armors, i think only the studded leather section though, for chain mail, not to mention you could jsut throw the elven chainmail looking robe ontop of the out fit and call it chainmail. or there's a million of other thigns you could do. on one server a guy who could only wear light armor, did some fancy thigns with colors and completly played it off liek he was wearign full plate, took a good eye to catch that he wasn't.

Don't forget there is a big difference between a wearing a Chain Shirt, and wearing full Chain Mail.

The former is just what it says: A simple tunic, usually with short arms, of chain links. In RL this could weight as little as 6-10lbs

Chain Mail or Chain Armour is a full suit of chain mail. Think tunic with long sleeves, coif, greaves (translation, a chain helm, and full length chain leggings. Often the mail will be doubled in vulnerable areas. A suit could easily weigh 40-50lbs

Suffice to say that for a suit of Chain Armour to be considered "light" in anyone's mind, is going to take some enchantments, or might strange materials ;)

Well its in the Forgotten Realms.... anyway I thought It might be possible seeing as how it existed in the orginal NWN.  And a chain shirt SHOULD be considered light armor seeing how its only a chain shirt

Shiff: There was NOT a suit of Chainmail in NWN that was light armor. It was only CALLED Chainmail. It was really Padded Armor.

Chain shirts did in fact change from Medium to Light between 3.0 and 3.5. However!

Even in 3.0, items made of Mithril DID NOT RECEIVE ANY ENHANCEMENT BONUS.

All they got was the following:
- Armor Type reduced to a minimum of Light
- AC check penalty reduced by 4
- Weight halved
- Max Dex Bonus increased by 2
- Spell failure reduced by (I think) 25%

So... For a set of Mithril Fullplate, you'd end up with the following stats:
Medium armor, AC 8, Armor Check -6, 25lbs, Max Dex 3, Spell Failure 50%

Likewise, a suit of mithril chainmail (usually referred to as Elven Chainmail) would have the following stats:
Light armor, AC 5, Armor check -1, however many pounds, Max Dex 4, Spell Failure - (I believe).

A mithril weapon didn't confer any bonuses except to be lighter, and be harder to destroy.
