Question about Prestige Class rules
« on: January 15, 2007, 04:35:01 PM »
I have a question about the Shifter Prestige class and the Layo rules about restricted multiclassing.  I have a ranger that I would like to be able to develop into a 32 ranger/ 7 druid/ 1 shifter over the course of playing Layonara.  Would I even be able to do that given that i do the required amount of CDQing and the like?

Well, understand that our rules for multi-classing of druids would require you to take all 32 levels in Ranger first, then Druid levels until the minimums for Shifter have been met. Druids can only freely multiclass with the Shifter PrC.

and you must have 5 levels in every class you're going to take by 20 or if taken post epic by 40

Like he said, there is a minimum of five levels per class.

In addition, it's kind of irrelevant, anyway. There is only a very small handful of characters above level 30 on Layonara, and it took them a long, long time to get there.

I would say its very relevant. If this character makes it to above lvl 30 and discover that he have built the character based on wrong facts.

Its like saying its no use using a helmet when driving a motorcykle. Because only a handfull of a couple of thousands that crashes and hit their head ;)

It's more like telling someone that they must wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle, but adding that it will likely take him years to be able to get on the road.

Not entirely useless just going to take a very long time however I do believe it is a good idea to think about these things before hand, I also think that they are probably going to change by then anyway.

EDIT: I also think that they, your goals and 'build' will change by then with rp experiance.

Sorry if I wasn't clear :)

I doubt our level requirements will change significantly.

Agreed, in fact, pretty sure they won't change on the "minimum five per class".

Well, in theory, you could go Rgr30/Drd5/Shf5, if you had the prerequisites from Druid. If you NEEDED seven from Druid, you could just go Rgr28/Drd7/Shf5.  That said, you're not likely to make level twenty within a year, at the earliest. You'd be hard-pressed to make level fifteen in a few months (

Only planning for the first 20 level is actually a rather good idea.

If you go for the WLDQ-route, your initial plans will most probably be put into a trashcan then. :P

Not to encourage powergaming, but several characters have hit lvl 20 and beyond in less than a year's time. If you hit every quest as some do, you'll level very fast.
I never liked the concept of taking a single level in a particular class, no matter how closely related that class is to your base class. Never made sense to me from an RP scenario really. Nice to see it's still discouraged.
