Mushrooms and Taxes

Soon after I arrived in Hlint, I realized I had already lost the journal I had been keeping. No great loss really. It only took a few coins to purchase this one.

I wasn't in town long before an employment opportunity made itself open to me. A man named Kell needed a box of mushrooms, and apparently I was just the man for the job. As it turns out, these mushrooms seem to grow sporadically, and in rat droppings. Further, the Rats didn't appreciate me trying to steal their mushrooms.

I gathered the box, and a few more. Upon emerging though, I learned of yet another job to complete, quite near my previous goal. A woman in town had lost some important papers, and tasked me with finding them.

Unfortunately for me, "lost" seems to mean "had stolen." It took me quite a few attempts, and quite a bit of time running away to dress my wounds, before I even got close to the papers. Even after all that work, it was only with the aid of a strong swordsman, a Paladin, that I was able to retrieve the papers. If I remember correctly, the man had earlier introduced himself as Galan.

I have yet to give the box of mushrooms to Kell, but the reward for the "lost" papers was quite hefty. I bought a big sword, and and a shield. I feel safer, but I am sure those rats could still bite me hard enough to send me running.

If I keep myself mobile in combat though, I seem to fare better.

Wisdom to keep in mind - with swords, size does matter. Not only does the weight make a deeper cut, but the length keeps enemies out of touch ... atleast a bit.
