    RP logging off
    « on: February 01, 2007, 11:39:37 AM »
I'm not new to role playing in general, i.e. PnP, live action, or even just story, but this in game interactive role playing is new for me. I don't think I'll have too much trouble getting used to it but I am unsure how to role play having to log off. Under most circumstances I can see having finished whatever it was I was doing with people and going off on my own under pretenses of finding a bed for the night or something like, but what of the circumstances that dictate one has to leave suddenly? Not that it happens to me often but it does happen and under those circumstances are there appropriate or at least accepted ways to RP it or does one just OOC the the instance and apologize?

Well having two small kids and occasionally having to log off fast...
I tend to go for the OOC //Sorry I really need to log off now
And then...well save and log off.
While it is always preferable (IMHO) to RP your way into logging off it just isn't always practical so people generally are quite forgiving of both the OOC log off and also the //afk - kids

Yeah, if you have to go in a hurry it is okay to do a // and just get out of there. But when possible try to RP it (within reason of course). Thanks for asking, good to see that. :)

*She leaps to her feat.* Oh, my! Not again! I already forgot once to go shopping with Mother in Hampshire! I have to run! Take caaaare!! *In an unexpected speed for her, she hurries away eastwards.* // Emergency situation! See you!

    Something like that maybe? :)

Yeah, I gotta agree with the other posters -- with (now 3) small children in the house, I frequently have to log in a hurry when one or more of them wake up unexpectedly.  Whenever possible, I try to go to an out of the way, safe place to save and exit, but sometimes, it comes down to a quick "// gotta log ASAP" and a hope that I'm not going to log back into a real mess later.  :)

I tend to make up previous engagements, (need to meet someone for dinner, promised to give fighting lessons to a kid who's getting bullied, etc.) if I can make RP sense out of it. If I'm in the middle of a dungeon, it's a lot more difficult to come up with reasonable reasona why I might need to go, so the ooc method usually works in those cases.

Armolas will run to the nearest tree and *quickly climbs the tree and disappears into the foliage*.
Also works for logging back on *climbs down from the tree*.
