Just wanted to say thanks to Nonac, Grovel, Vendar, Jaelle, and Abagli [forgive me if I mispelled it] for the hunt for the Ur-Wolves the other night!  Hopefully my tall stature won't keep me out of the pack!  Thanks again.

A Lesson In Roleplay
« Reply #242 on: November 29, 2007, 10:37:36 PM »
If you saw a guy gambling 500 gold, win, gamble those winnings, lose, gamble 2000 gold, lose that, gamble another 2000 gold, lose that, go to gamble 50,000 gold, change his mind and increase the bet to 100,000 gold, and lose it all, you'd think him crazy, right? I mean, think of all the good stuff your character could buy with that sort of gold.

Other people may have already worked this out, but it was a minor revelation to me in good roleplay. Its not what you'd do for your character with the gold, its what your character would do with their gold. It's (another) difference in what is good roleplay, even, as a player, it means you "losing".

If you're really good, you probably won't even consider that to be "losing". It seems gold is just another tool for expressing of your roleplay.

Kudos to Lord Cove, and sympathies to Sallaron when Tegan finds out. ;)

Regards,

Script Wrecked.

Oh ScriptWrecked, you don't even know the start of the trouble in which Mr Tempest now finds himself! :)

Ditto to your praise for LordCove, well said.

Heh! Only just noticed the above. And did you "have" to mention how much he bet? She's gonna kill him... human or not.  ;)

Anyway... came her for something else.

Karma Virus / Farros Galdor

Even though was only a short stint badgering a new character and hitting the sewers... he had me laughing my back off.

Where the hell he comes up with his retorts and comments I dont know... but some of them deserve to be bloody published!

Classic mate!

I wanted to give a BIG shout out to Jaelle and her RP with me the other day. I know some of my best RP with people is always alone and without witnesses, so I love being able to come here and give props to people. Thanks Jaelle.

I have also been having a blast with with Ellis, Bart, Syton, Randi, Brina, and Balzag lately. The whole Malkor is dying this has been a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you.

Ah, many thanks my good friend.  I have to add that I love your new transmutation and they way Sall and his wife are coping with the new situation.  I had a ball meeting gobbo/sall with my goblin Grovel.. and the offer still stands, if they ever mess up your cure, you are more than welcome to join the wolf pack goblin tribe!

I have to add the new lad, Taringalia to the list here!  He was fun to give a hard time too, especially after he spit on my shoes for askin if he had a hot sister.  I took him around many a new quest, and always was his mind set to death in true barbarian tradition.  Farros began liking this guy, now wholeheartedly he loves him for his skaldic heart.  Also of course to gobbo sall for being able to convinvce me not to commit mass murder in hempstead.

And to the servant of the lightbringer.  Fear not, ye are not too tall and are most welcome in our tribe.  Up there with Eghass Treebring in the pure excellency that is Aeriden's grace! (eghass rules too!)

After that I have to thank sabrissa ice for her enjoyment of our goblin and skald driven romp around dregar.  I'm glad you're back and that you liked our hoarde of doom. I'm sorry for our drunken zen but I called nonac at work asking him to bring home another 12pack of beer after my 12pack this morning and the 2 ltr bottle of 16% sake.  whoooo!  In all, it worked very well, not a single casualty and we ran out of there fully intact.

Especially thanks to Storold and his help introducing the gods and lucinda and spellswordship to taringalia.  I knew immediately upon finding you that you'd provide a good bit of mentorship to him about the spellsword path, and you're always a pleasure to talk to.

To Mangle-Or, War Singer and Nonac for playing the perfect goblin tribe, and Vendar, their scholar!  You guys rock.  Its why I log in every night now, 4 years after I found this place.

It takes a fine player populace to make a discerning guy like me coming back again and again... As every day passes, I just love layo more and more.

Thanks to all who interacted with Farros in his new digs, to swanwillow and her bard in joining the cause and all those unnerved by Farros' "Lord Domino" persona.  *breathes heavy and glares at them under his black and white, red eyed hypnotic stare... like some kind of sick cross between the Mad Maxx Lord Humungous and the FF2 black wizards*

And as to where I come up with this stuff, tis either at the bottom of a 12-pack, 2 bottles of wine or a 1.5 liter botle of sake.  Improvisation and interaction are key!

I have to reply in kind.  Taringalia was only an outline of a character when he started that night.  Your character Farros in essence helped in his actions to shape him into a much more interesting character because of your roleplay.  My whole idea of roleplay is to allow the surroundings, the people and events to shape who your character is and will be.  So hats off to Farros, Sall and Tegan for giving Taringail the fuel to evolve.  Here is to fun in the future on by far the best online game/mudd I have ever played in my 20 + years of gaming.

Much thanks!

Tegan knows how to be gentle, she's only scarey when she has to be.

But this is a long in coming kudos to LordCove. I had no idea when Tegan hooked up with Sall all the trouble they would find themselves in. I want to give a thanks for all that trouble, because Tegan has developed more of a character from those situations. The memories I have gained in the months of their "relationship" are very comical. My favorite of one of Tegan's gentle moments with Sall was at the masquerade party, when she threatened Sall with a fireball and warned the people next to him to move.

Drizz you to, the mixture of comedy and their banter are enjoyable to RP. As well as you and your wife have the sassiest, most quick retort humor I have seen, and it's enjoyable seeing you both RP with each other.

I have a few kudos owing, so let me make a start on them:

To DMOE, for your portrayal of Muireann, and most especially for the encounter between Muireann and Jaelle on the docks today. I have always found your characters to be vivid, your RP to be uncompromising, and no matter what happens you always challenge my characters. Thank you.

To Ellis Kyudo (I think your forum name is similar), for your tough-as-nails, sassy, hard-boiled archer. She's strong, sets a wicked pace adventuring, and will lead an entire party to their death if you let her. And yet for some reason you can't hate her for it, because it's just so clearly what Ellis would do. There's more to her than that, though, and I've loved our RP out of combat as well. Funny how being dead can suddenly clear your schedule to RP like that! ;) Thank you for creating such a one-of-a-kind character. I truly have not met another like her.

To Pibemanden, for Storold's reaction to Jaelle's confession of the Thunderpeak Crossroads incident, and later for his reaction to her very public tongue-lashing. I really love the way you handled it, defending Storold's actions and standing up to her while still retaining sympathy for the crime. His strict adherence to the letter of the law above all else is certainly at odds with Jaelle's ideas of justice and he pushes her buttons, but the fact that you can do that just shows me how well you can play your character and your alignment. I hope you enjoyed the encounters even a tenth as much as I did.

To Hellblazer, for commitment to RP and patience above and beyond what I ever expected. I cannot believe Brian sat there eavesdropping for two real life hours. Seriously!

And finally (for now), to Filatus, for Hardragh. For confusing, complex, challenging Hardragh. I know your character through more than one of my own, and they have such radically different opinions of him sometimes that it seems he's several different men. He's not, though--he's just so wonderfully and thoroughly developed that one character can never really see all the sides to him. Also, for the maturity of your roleplay and your willingness to just let things happen and let his responses be guided by what happens in game.  I never know what will happen with Hardragh, and I sometimes get the feeling that you don't either, and I think that the way you let your character make his own decisions is truly commendable. You are one of my favourite people to RP with.

Thank you all, and all those I have not had time to mention yet.

I have to say that it has been fun Rping with Jaelle, the few times he did. Her reaction to him appearing out of nowhere at Corax lake was something very fun.

Chiara for her naivety and spontaneousness, hope to see more of her soon.

Ellis, well yeah, she's a hard arse straight to the point running forward almost getting killed type of char. Makes it fun at times. Although the only out of action rp I have ever had with that char was with rain almost a year ago.

I can already say a futur kudos to Anamesis, Silverdraco and Stolen. Watch out people the invasion of the In'Darsus kids is at your door *grins*. I will certainly have fun with that and I hope that many of you will be able to have fun with us too.

There is to many people actually and not enough time to write every good rp I have had. So just a kudos to all on the server I have met and Rpied with.

Pfft! Gentle? What is this... selected memory loss?
Forgetting the hangover in the Lerinagard arms where you almost Thunderclapped him to death?
The burnt hair and singed eyebrows?
The 350 Thousand times she's Hold spelled him with threats of bodily harm?

And of course... this... http://forums.layonara.com/poetic-license/140922-characters-layo-5-a.html . I didn't make it up folks... that "really" happened  ;) hehe... kinda

But another Kudos here... of course to Tegs... mentioned her plenty times. Layo wouldn't be the same without a gentle *coughs* beautiful Sorceress keeping you on the straight and narrow.  8)

But also to Mix's recent quest with Lance, Narketh, Balthzog, Travie and Jaigan. I knew "something" was going to happen.... and I "thought" I'd escaped it, and we really "were" gonna go out and find some buried treasure.
Guess not heh.
I had "no" idea what was coming, and you played it all out brilliantly.

Although... trying to get Sall alone in an Inn room with you Narketh? Heh.. not a good idea  :)

Great fun.

haha, I've been at that Treasure map thing all day trying to get someone to hunt down the treasure. So I dropped that note off near you thinking "hey Sall will snatch that up" then I ended up following you around thinking you had the note and was waiting for the others to leave but they wouldn't :D . I never expected the events to unfold like that.

Well, what a memorable night.  It was really a pleasure and priviledge to be able to roleplay with such a seemingly cohesive group last night.  In all my years of roleplay it has been rare that so many different people could almost instantly become a team that made the who dunit quest so unforgettable for me.  First I would like to thank Row and any other DM who took part in running the show,  It was YOUR roleplay and YOUR story that made everything possible.  Without you this game would not be what it is.  So first and formost thanks to you and also to the other DM's, you are all great.  Now enough brown-nosing, onto those in the quest.

Ferrit  - You really know how to play it right.  Love your roleplay, on que all the time, never have a worry with you around.

Rain - Well yer ok, although are you sure you could hit the side of a barn with that bow of yours?  Just kidding, you are a staple, always dependable for good roleplay.

Jennara - I just love what I have seen from your character so far, cant wait to roleplay more and learn why she always whispers

Clarissa - You have it to a tee.  I love characters who are roleplayed so well you do not even need to look at them and you would still know what they do, who they are, etc etc.

Connor - My first time to roleplay with you and I hope not the last.  Love yer wit and humour.

Storold - Please dont change, I have loved your roleplay since day one.. hope to have more

Acacea - wow, thats all I got to say, sing it and sing it loud

Phaeyr - Didnt get much interaction so hope we get more

And lastly but not leastly,

Clover, although we also did not interact much just watching your roleplay I do hope we get a chance in the future

I wanted to give a thanks to Tanman/Eghass for the DATE last evening with Clover.  The rp was fun and exciting.  Eghass was so classy and such a gentleman. The setting was romantic and the roasted wild chicken with gravy and steamed rice was very cool:)  Thanks for the fun Tanman.
