Oh, but you forgot to take into account cultural and regional differences. Over here, we don't celebrate Valentine's day, we celebrate S.A.D.

Singles Awareness Day.

From my hubby on Valentine's Day: 2 cards, a 22-quart extra-heavy duty stockpot, an electronic kitchen scale, a silicone jar-opener, 4 boxes of my favorite chocolates, and the day has hardly started. The best is yet to come. *giggles*

On my favorite card: The fact that breathing can be done entirely through the nose means faces were designed for extensive periods of making out. Scientific theories must be tested over and over.

PS--In case you're wondering, we've been married for forty-three years.  :D

*smiles at Serissa's super sweet posting*

Happy Valentine's Day!  To all those who think of it as a Hallmark Holiday, I suggest that you appropriate it in to a day of random and senseless acts of love and kindness that make this world a better place and show the U.S. government that with a little will $300, 000, 000, 000 on defense (there is something to be cynical about) may not be necessary.  For all the Canadians it would tell the government that it would not be necessary to give our six boats and twelve planes a lube job this year and instead focusing on why meeting Kyoto requirements is a good thing and not a pain in their side.  Europeans and other citizens of the world including, but not exclusive of Aussies, South Americans, Africans and Asians.. Please tell me what a whole lot of love would do for your respective country.

Continuing the saga of Valentine's Day:  For brunch, I fixed him Caramelized Apples seasoned with rum, cinnamon, and freshly grated nutmeg, all folded into paper-thin cornmeal crepes, and topped with a dollop of sour cream.

Giant Pink Azelias with a chocolate candy bar with a card that simply says "All my love".  Serissa's right, the best is yet to come. *winks*  Happy Valentine's Day!

    Did you know?

Saint Valentine was a martyer who was executed for opposing a Roman ruler who attempted to ban marrage.

The ruler thought it would be in the best intrest of his failing armies to remove all distractions.. that included marraige.

During those days when a man married a woman (even the pagan religions of the time) they would spend 1 year with them and could not be called to battle.

Being the bastian grand wisdom that the man was, he figured that if the men were not married then they wouldn't feel drawn to return home so quickly and thus his armies would stay out longer and complain less.

The rule decreed that no one was to be married any more, and with a wave of his hand made marraige illegal.

Valentine refused to stop performing marraiges, as a Christain it was reprehensible that Man would void a gift from God. Valantine was also upset that the advisors didn't see how this would demoralize the troops and cause the men to fight with less fervor.... after all.. a soldier will fight harder for his family then he will for himself.

Valentine was captured and imprisoned, during which time he met the neice of the Jailer. Despite the lofty position of her uncle she was left as a lowly prison wench from her dibilitating blindness.

Valantine shared his Faith with her and she became a Christain, before his execution the woman who had been blind since birth received her sight when she prayed with Valentine.

Valentine and the woman fell in love, though days later he was presented before the Ruler... despite the wisdom of the arguments that Valentine made, and the conviction of his Faith he was executed.

The resulting uprising from the people, his own men, and the Jailer and his Neice... the Ruler eventually removed the ban on Marraige.. and people celebrated one day each year in rememberance of Valentine and his sacrafice.
