I found the entire city lacking trash cans and fresh water severely. A starting area should hold a quite high level of convinience, as Hlint did. Never did you have to walk far to find somewhere to throw your rubbish or fill up your canteens. Port Hempstead should be just as convinient. It took me a long time to even find the standard merchants. My point is that everything (standard) should be easily accessible, otherwise it will cause a lot of annoyance for new, as well as old, players.
