Do I have to be careful where I call my horse?
« on: April 10, 2007, 02:14:35 AM »
I haven't tested this out so I am not sure what the answer is but before it becomes an issues I would like to see if I can find out the answer.  When I use my Paladin's whistle it summons my warhorse.  Imediately after I use the whistle the horse enters my party as a henchman and then runs to me from some random place a ways away in the area.  My question is whether or not it is possible for the horse to trigger a spawn or attract a foe during this time.  If there is something that prevents this its fine but if it can get attacked or trigger a spawn as it runs up to me then I need to be careful where I call it.  Thank you.

Only PCs should trigger encounters, but that doesn't mean one wasn't already triggered by your presence and the horse dragged it along with it as it comes to you.

So being careful isn't a bad thing, though your horse should not trigger any spawns.

Not to mention that if your horse wanders to the spawn point, you'd likely set it off right on top of him as you tried to get closer to mount the horse and tripped the spawn yourself.  Also for RP purposes, it's usually a bad idea to summon your horse inside a city building or deep within a cave past a good deal of monster guard spawns.  Certainly blowing your whistle in the Underdark when you left your horse topside would be a suicide mission for the poor mount, and the bank might foreclose on him if he scuffed up the finely polished flooring.
