Request for Donation Tally System

 [SIZE=16]I request a donation item similar to that of the temples for The Foundation. It takes me almost 2 hours each time I clean out the donation crates. These two hours are spent taking a lens price of the item in question, entering it into an excel spread sheet and then dumping the items in the trash. I've all but given up having a GM witness each and every one of these dumps, but keeping my logs as proof. To be truthful the task of doing this is sucking a lot of the fun from the game. Dealing with this coupled with IC and OOC player apathy and comments has made me wonder why I am even doing it as Layo has become more a chore than a game of late.[/SIZE]
 
 
 [SIZE=16]I realize the crates add to the Role Play value of donations and to add a temple type figure would diminish that, but if even a special trash can were available for me to place in the guild hall or 108 Port Hempstead out of public reach, it would go a long way to making the task less tedious. I'd be willing to contribute from Katrien's own resources for the item. [/SIZE]
 
 [SIZE=16]I believe that both I and the members of the foundation have proven that we are committed to the charity drive and it's not a passing fancy to be discarded in a few weeks after the novelty wears off. I'd like the item to give receipts and a total for item donations using the lens as the value as I've been doing now, as well as take the coin donations so I don't have to lock those in crates.[/SIZE]

Perhaps the donation collector could be placed similarly to the PC quest system NPCs.  The NPC would bear the name of the PC placing it (Katrien in this case) and that would be used as the "god" to donate too in the database.  The players could perhaps get access to the information on a new temple donation style page.

If a guild, like The Foundation, were collecting they would want to insure that the same PC always placed their NPC collector for bookeeping purposes (though they could, of course, tally up the donations from several PCs).

This is the type of thing I want as well. We need to get it in place at some point as it ties in to other systems.

So this would just use the temple donation box that I already have and the same interface but there would be a different NPC to talk to?  If that's the case I think this is an outstanding idea.  Not to mention the lag reduction due to not having those items around in game.  Great idea.

I think if it gave receipts to the players it would encourage donations...  I know it's silly but knowing that you donated X amount of goods would be cool, give the player a sense of accomplishment instead of just dumping them in a crate and wandering off wondering if all the time you spent collecting and crafting whatever it was you donated really helped.  If you could keep tabs on a board like the trade skills you might even get some of the players in a race to see who could be the biggest donators.  I guess that is if the amounts donated were in game knowledge, like the tradeskills...  or are the tradeskills IG knowledge? hmmm...

Plus it would be easy for the person receiving the donations to be able to thank the people donating.  Right now all you can do is put chests out and let people put stuff in it but having this system would engourage donations because characters could be properly credited for their generosity.  This seems like a quick fix that could have an immediate benefit.  Thanks guys.

Well, um... Bump. The recent thefts have made it harder for the community at large to donate, having to get a key, which is more and more that Minerva has to do.

So, if it's possible to drop an NPC like this in, I, for one, would donate constantly.
