To Discuss The Threat
« on: May 23, 2007, 12:58:29 PM »
If a meeting place has not already been chosen. I will be at Stormcrest for any of those willing to go with me to investigate the recent matter of Otherworldy beings invading Layonara. These large , very fast beasts are resistant to most magics , and seem to create darkness around them. Many of you have seen them in your travels and therefore have something to add. Please meet me at Stormcrest to dicuss

//This is in junction with the Dark Beasts quest on the calendar and therefore will share the same time. if a starting place has not already been decided//

*Randi walks in and reads the many different notes scribled on pieces of parchment.  Then begins her own writing on the bottom of one*

I would be interested in meeting with you. I have seen one of these but did not try to attack.  From what I have heard from others, several of these spotting's have taken place near and around Hlint.  Do you think we should meet there? Maybe travel there after meeting and talking with others.

Also what is your name?

They hold two homes. One is at the foot of the mountains of Brech, and another at a sand dune in the deserts of Dregar. If we are to investigate this matter, I suggest we meet near one of their dwellings. Perhaps Stormcrest would be the best decision.

Sincerely,

I suggest meeting near enough to discuss first and attack if needed later. These things are planar at best. Meaning that something is letting them in or they've found a way on their own. Like I said, I will be at stormcrest to discuss.

//after todays session....

Well, we ken now thar's a gate o' some sort down in the 'ole.  We also ken thar's a good deal too many o' the blast'd beasts fer us te deal wit' in a conventional sense.  We prolly need te 'ead inte the 'ole an' find out whar the gate goes, ifn we kin open it.  Ah've got a plan te git us down in thar, ifn folks'll listen.

We ken the beasts are 'ttract'd te sound, an' don' like light, so my plan involves using those thangs 'gainst 'em.  First we wait til dark, since they'll be more inclined te come out then, an' we lure 'em out wit' a gnomish jukebox or two makin' lots o' noise, leadin' 'em far 'way.  Then while the beasts are gone, we slip in te check out the gate.

Ifn the gate kin be used te send the beasts back whar they come from, or anywhar else whar they won' be able te git back, the group inside kin set up a anothah gnomish jukebox just inside the gate so the beasts'll flock te it once it starts makin' noise.  We step out nice an' safe-like an' close the door b'ind 'em all affer they go in affer the jukebox.

So, what y'all think o' my plan?  What kin be done te make it bettah, an' what 'bout it don't ye think will work a'tall?  Ah'm thinkin' it's a good one m'self, but then ah think anythin' that might git one or two o' those blast'd gnomish contraptions destroyed is a good thang.  *chuckles*

Rhynn listens in the shadows then pops out (or replies on the board if thats where this is)

"Well, Lyle, It's a good idea. Replace Gnomish Jukebox with Thunderstones though, they're easier to carry and I have a bunch of them at home. There are a lot in there though so it may be hard.

I was also wondering if perhaps you, Lyle could come up with something on an instrument that sounded sort of like the howling. What instruments would get closest to making that noise? That way maybe you could hide invisible behind me making the sound while I looked like one of them. Ozy said they are equvilant to hunting dogs so I doubt they have a language of howls, just sounds.

That said, I'm willing to help again if you need it and if your oaf of a giant would stop questioning my morality in whom I decide to show my affection twoards.

*In horrible handwriting and barely legible common*

If dis says whuts I was tolds, den jue listens here. Maybes if jues tells everyones first before jues changes into one of the enemies, we wouldn't jumps and be ready to fights. Maybes if jues didn't goes in da holes, den comes out and tells everyone how you are going to murderous all if you don't get your way...Maybe if jues learns dat NO ONE makes jue leaders, we all dere to helps, and jues not on some special platform...maybes if jues had morals and didn'ts sleeps wid Miths, and den runs to Malors, den to Ozymandus to get riches, powers...we wouldn't thinks dems things of jue.

As it stands, jues bossy and not listens to us. Whey we listens to jue? Jue tells us jue murders us and expect us to smiles and begs for helps? Only oafs Bakees sees is dats big inflated heads on jue shoulders. Try being nices if you want nices. Keeps wid da insults and threats of murders us, and jues gets what is comings.

The funny thing is , the last thing I overheard were people wishing you'd die so I'd come back. Set your priorities Straight you monstrosity and then maybe people will listen to your opinion.

If these two just keep fightin, nothin'll ever get done...

*he tacks this next to Lyle's idea*

Great Idea mate.  I'll be happy tah help.  Lets just hope some of our other partners in this will stop bickering with themselves and work together, so we can get rid of these beasties.  Then they can fight wit eachother all they want

What I'm saying is that there are a lot of them in there even though it was said they like to work on their own. If they've made a bit of a colony, and I'm not saying they're smart enough to do so..but think of it this way

If we heard a noise would we all run off in one direction or send a few?

I mean conversely we could just do it a few times and pick one or two off at a time but even then it'd one: be hard and Two: Take a lot of time , while they would surely notice their ranks not coming back.

Three: Its dark down there, really dark , we'd need Ultravision on all of us or else another way to see in the dark, or simply lights, Though lights may endanger what we are trying to do.

I still think it may be possible to use auras of silence to make our steps completley un hearable as we go down there, and ultimately think we should use a mixture of what Lyle proposes and that to get the job done.

Well, Miss Rhynn, wit' all due respect, anothah reason ah suggest'd the gnomish jukeboxes is that once they're start'd they keep makin' noise.  The thundah stones, while noisey, only last a fraction o' a second.  Mayhaps they'd be good fer usin' as distractions ifn we git spott'd down in the 'ole.  Might e'en deafen them critter's long 'nuff fer us te git 'way.

An' ifn ah recall, yer Ozzums said they were intell'gent nuff te be reason'd wit' te a small degree, ifn it weren't fer the fact that they tend te attack whatevahs makin' the noise te try an' reason wit' 'em.  An' 'e also said they do communicate te a degree wit' eachothah.  So ah don' think simply mimickin' a few o' thar 'owls wit' an instrument would do the trick.  E'en 'untin' wolves 'ave differ'nt sounds they use te 'elp co-ordinate thar 'unts that ain' nuthin' the average fella kin' reproduce wit any clarity.  Now, ifn we 'ad one o' those rangah types what kin' sort o' talk te animals, they might 'ave a bettah chance o' communicatin' wit' these beasts, assumin' the beasts don' try an' eat 'em fer the noise their makin' first.

Like I said, there's no real way of distracting them for long without intensive study of them, however, for that fraction of a second. I agree.

Truthfully all descriptions were rather confusing. Smart enough to be reasoned with but only considered as a 'hunting dog' of the Abyssal realms....I suppose the outer realms are hard to understand indeed.

Atleast we agree that our main goal is to get past that gate and see what is there. It was a rather elaborate gate as a matter of fact, and a ways away from where I jumped in if that's any help.

And Lyle about the rangers, I'm not sure one native to Layonara would be able to talk to a being from another realm like that that they're not familiar with....Worth a try of course...but I'm not sure that unless they can understand what basic shriek pattern means what that it'll do us any good.

Maybe instead of music on a jukebox you can use them to make noises of things they usually eat. Small critters and such..not sure how you'd go about doing that though..

Perhaps we may find actual small prey for them to hunt in the meantime.
They hold feral intelligence, however, so the pack themselves would not leave to hunt prey, merely a few, as we have seen. As fine of an idea all these distractions can be, we will still have the creatures in the cave to handle. If they are as many as you had spoken of, Rhynn, then we may find a better choice simply finding a way in instead of being too complicated. The fox creature himself did not seem to take an immense amount of time preparing as we are now.

Rhynn, Bakee, whatever feud you two may have outside of this or that had been created during this, drop it, or we drop you. The hatred was tolerable at the start, but now it is a nuisance. Remember that you two are adults and not children.

I'm for any plan that will work.  Whether we use noise makers, lil critters, or even if we just follow the fox, we need to know what we are doing before we go after the gate and the beasties around it.  We know they are vulnerable to positive energies, we know healing magics can harm then, and we know they are sensitive to sound.

Now Rhynn suggested silence...  Now I don't know much about magic, but if Silence wears off, or they somehow dispell it while we are down there, we all die.  I say we follow the fox next time.  That creature seems to know more about these beasts then we ever will, and if he could kill seven of them alone, while we can't even handle one, I say there is a Reason the spell is called "Fox's Cunning."  We all know them noble types use hounds to hunt foxes, well this Fox knows how to hunt these "Abyssal" Hounds.  I'm placing all bets on the Fox.  Plan how you like, but if I Foxman comes a lookin for us next time, I'm going with him.

Hmm....not sure how this'd work, but Lyle jus' 'ad 'imself anuthah crazy idea!  *chuckles*  We ken they attack noise, the loudah the bettah, an' we ken positive energies 'urt 'em... 'ow 'bout using somethin' te make noise te lure 'em inte one spot, then tossin' a load o' 'ealin' potions on 'em?  Their 'fraid o' light, we go in wit' light spells all 'round maybe.  Do these beasts e'en really see wit' eyes like we 'ave?  ifn not, maybe long sticks scraped o'er the ground git 'em te 'it the wrong spot an' someone steps in te 'ack off their 'eads wit' a heavy sword or axe?

Seems thar could be a few way's o' dealin' wit' 'em, but ah kin' tell ye, tryin' te cast a 'ealin' spell on one ain' goin' te work cause their too quick.  Bes' option then using positive energies te fight 'em would be tossin' potions or usin' 'oly traps, an' lot's o' 'em.  As fer potions, ah think ah'll stock up afore our next go an' see what ah kin do wit' 'em.  Might grab me a few o' those thundahstones too.

Oh!  'long the lines o' the 'oly traps, we could lay a bunch o' those round the 'ole, then whenevah one o' those beasts comes or goes they git blast'd wit' the 'oly energies o' the traps.  Might be a good way te 'elp ensure we don' git snuck up on by the ones we lure out while we're down in the 'ole ourselves.
