How much does a temple or crafthall cost?
« on: June 01, 2007, 03:43:40 PM »
Since the new rules regarding enchanting pools and no monsters in towns/crafthalls, I feel it's high time to start building a counter-culture civilization in order to level the playing field for more monstrous and diabolical patrons.  Sure it's good RP to keep us out of the major cities, but it's not like we get any preferential treatment from the monstrous races abroad!  Reading up on Grand, it says that his temples are mostly basic tents with forges in them, and a thought occurred to me... a temple/smithy!  A place where the fell races and priests can congregate and work without the stygma of the so-called civilized bigots of Mistone harrassing us... a place where if a Paladin sets foot, his leg is most assuredly hacked off to yeild a fleshy lil stump of goodness.

Essentially, what I have in mind is a savage looking tent-like structure or possibly a cave dug into a cliffside that serves many uses much like the Deliarite multi-plex in Hempsteed.  What it'd need first and foremost are the following

-priests who attack all dwarves & paladins on sight
-enchanting pool
-bindstone
-Forge
-1 anvil each for weapon and armorcrafting
-Woodcraft bench (for axe shafts & bows)
-ingot recycler
-trash bin
-craft merchant
-sacrificial altar
-some kind of claw-like monolith or suitable orcish statue for idolatry

I'm not entirely certain where would be a good place for it, perhaps in that cavern near berhagen where the dead illithid sleeps if it hasn't been changed out already, or near some orcish tribe.  Of course, it's also entirely possible that it would be cheaper and more fitting to Grand's will to sack and defile an existing goodly temple and twist it into his image.

Around what ballpark figure would this cost in terms of gold or CNR?  Would it be entirely necessary to raise gold if one was bored enough to go out and gather, say.. a couple thousand metal ingots and wooden planks or so?  I also suspect that once all this is gathered, a CDQ would be in order to sancitfy, or rather, villify the area in order to make it appropriately unhallowed ground. :D

After this is completed, the next step would likely be to make a decent mini-crafthall and tribal villaige specifically for monstrous characters to congregate with possibly a safe rest area by a campfire.  The whole place needs heads on pikes and dead bodies around it to exemplify Grand's will.

This sounds like the crafthall is in the middle of a gladiatorial arena. Sack Valensk mabey? *wink wink*

Other than that - lovely idea :)

Strange, reading that link it seems that Leanthar himself stated that in certain cases, the Deities would allow even enemy gods to use pools, such as in the scenaerio of one using Aragen's pools to gain knowledge.  In any case, the purpose of this thread is to find the costs relating to building a new temple, not to debate rehashed rulings from other threads.  Right now I'm thinking it's more important to my cleric that his god has a temple at all vs. having a good supply of holy water.

The cost of a temple depends on location and size and are determined on an individual basis.
Price is set by Leanthar, but count on at least a million.

And there is a pool on Mistone you can use I think...
