OOC goings on of Sabalan Thergol

Hello!

As discussed, I would like to book in for a CDQ for Sabalan Thergol, my (almost) level 9 Priest of Grannoch.

Generalisations are all well and good and generally ( :) ) come into existence for a pretty valid reason but is there a race more consistently vilified than giant-kin?

Hunted and slaughtered without remorse across Dregar, perceived merely as obstacles in the path between dwarves and their precious ore, it is time that someone sought to redress the imbalance.

Objectives

(a) Determine those giant colonies/regions that revere Grannoch as their deity.

(b) Determine the viability of breeding rust monsters in captivity. Locate breeding pairs. He knows of some in Arindor's Demise but will research other possible locations.

(c) Establish a rust monster breeding facility in a suitable location (most likely on Dregar).

(d) Determine the logistical feasibility of transporting mature rust monsters to Grannoch-friendly giant settlements for incorporation into their defences.

Ideally, if his CDQ were deemed to have been successfully completed, I would love to see mixed spawns of giants and rust monsters in various giant-populated locations on both wet and central servers as the result.

Although he is not yet 10th level (and meeting the minimum level requirements for a CDQ) I also understand there may be substantial pre-CDQ criteria that need to be addressed first and thus I submit his application now.

It woul be my intention to keep his CDT current with regard to recording the successes and failures of this course of action.

Best Regards,
Angelic

Hello again!

OOC, I have been researching rust monsters - there is an interesting article in Dragon Magazine (#346 I think) entitled The Ecology of the Rust Monster which adds credence to the whole concept. I note this with the full understanding that Layonara has stated it's intent to move away from a d20 based system and it's preconceptions however, in the absence of specifically applicable lore that I can access, I hope it serves as a guide at least.

The points of note in that article that are relevant to a possible CDQ are twofold.

(a) Diet. Rust monsters will eat any metal and can subsist on coppers, tins, non-ferrous precious metals and the like, though they prefer refined ferrous metals - iron and steel. As such, I would imagine, part of a CDQ might be the accumulation of a substantial stockpile of copper, tin and iron?

(b) Breeding. The article to which I refer doesn't make note of any particular breeding issues - stating Rust Monsters generally are located in a dark, subterranean environment. It is Sabalan's intention to speak to Arynne Liadon (Forest friend) to get her input and assistance on the breeding of rust monsters. Part of the CDQ therefore I guess would be the scouting and securement of such a suitable location?

My question to you is also twofold. One, are the objectives of such a CDQ feasible before I begin to enlist the aid of other PCs in these endeavours? Two, is it possible to be given some direction as to what his research yields as pre-CDQ requirements in relation to points (a) and (b) above?

Many thanks,
Angelic
