Being audited stinks

Help!  The IRS is trying to take my money.  Can you believe they won't let me deduct my layo donations as charitable donations?  :)  Just kidding but I am being audited and it does stink.  It's just annoying to have to pull out all of these records from 2 years ago.  Ah well.  It should be over soon.

Hey! The IRS, and their Australian counterparts - the ATO, are a decent hard-working bunch of people, who deserve a big thanks. Kudos to you if you're monitoring these forums!

I can feel your pain.  My write offs are a bit large and always get a bit scared every time I send any thing to the IRS.

Coming from someone who does taxes ... you should keep all your records for at least 5 years, box them up, store them away.  IRS wants to see physical stuff.  And if you have questions ... no question is a stupid question when it comes to the gov't and your money.  There have been many changes in the tax laws over the past couple years ... so do not be afraid to ask.

Well I sent off all of the records I have.  I think they meet all of the requirements of the publications.  I guess we'll see in a few months.

5 years??   Ohhh  I can ditch my records from 1992?  My filing cabinet will be so much lighter  *winks*    I was audited once and it came out in MY favor.. Hang in there

The man will always be keepin' us down.

Just bring up the secret base on the dark side of the moon when they start stealing your loot.

I wouldn't mind taxes if we all could at least specify which part of the budget that money should be going to.  Namely, I would like to scale back that whole domestic spying thing to just our politicians and their families.  They say you can't put a 24/7 public webcam in the oval office for "national Security" reasons... no matter how much more secure the nation would feel with one in place.
