IRC Server
« on: December 19, 2007, 12:00:15 AM »
All of a sudden, I cannot connect to the Layonara irc server on my laptop.  (Possibly on my desktop either, but I can't test that right now.)  I've tried multiple programs, pinging the server, tracert - all just stall out several hops in.

Anyone having a) similar problems, or b) any idea of ways around this?  I could use the web-based client, but I would prefer that native apps work, as a lot of them are a lot nicer in the look-and-feel department.

Could be that your firewall was reset and is blocking it? Don't know, it's working fine for me.

Working fine for me.  Possible ISP issue?

If it's several hops out, it's probably not your local firewall.

*sigh*  I HOPE it's not the ISP being stupid.  I really do.  I'd hate to be relegated to net-based IRC.

I just hooked up the irc client about 15 minutes ago and connected no problem.

I have to disable mcafee when I connect to the irc server, something with what it is blocking. Not sure if this is the issue or not.

check your ports
if you recently switched from your laptop to desktop sometimes it will shut off the port your laptop used

Now I'm really getting concerned.  I can't access irc OR the forums without going through a proxy server.  I'm wondering what my ISP is up to.

Well, the IRC room lists you as there, if that adds to the confusion.

That DOES add to the confusion, as I'm not signed on in any shape or form, anywhere.

However, it's more the fact that I cannot now from home access any server with the suffix layonara.com that concerns me.  My ISP assures me that they're not traffic shaping my connection around Layonara, but I can't see who else it can be.  Every other website and irc server I've tried works.  All ports except 25 are clean and clear.

Through a proxy server, I can connect to the forums (and presumably IRC as well, though I haven't tested it), and tracert does its thing (cute DHCP server name, by the way, whoever was responsible.)  So if it were my router, I would think that it wouldn't matter, proxy server or no.

Without the proxy, I get the first hop to the router, a timeout, a hop to another Shaw server... and then the perpetual timeout that spells packet death.  I admit to being in the dark here.  Do I call Shaw and bawl them out again, or is it something closer to home?

Its a good idea to test with another computer as well.
Also...if you are running Windows XP/2000 have you tried connecting with safe mode with networking?
