The Destroyer comes!
« on: December 30, 2007, 08:05:01 AM »
* Rumours spread like a wildfire on the streets of Spellguard. Through travellers and merchants they quickly reach neighbouring towns and villages on Mistone.

People speak of a terrible ritual that has taken place on a far-away dark island. Here the Destroyer - Pyrtechon's manifestation in flesh and blood - has been conjured up from the darkest and deepest pits of the hells to walk our realm. Once this evil reaches the shores of Mistone, no one will be safe!

A caravan guard claims to have looked towards the heavens at dusk, where he saw the Eternal Flame blaze brightly nine times! One time for each day that remains until the Raging One enters our realm to burn and destroy all that is good.
The man claims that every time he closes his eyes he sees the imprint of the constellation through his inner eye and that for each day that passes, there is one less star. *

* Sall, lazing by the fountain in Hempy, tilt's his head slightly as he hears panicked talk among some merchants. Listening carefully, he frowns a bit and clambers to his feet. **

Nine days?! What happened to bloody months?!

** in an instant he strides over to the Merchant district, where a young boy and a monkey seem to be lazing peacefully amidst the branches of a tree. The young boy, silver streaks in his hair, glances down as he approaches, noting his dad's worried expression, and the boy sighs and roll's his eyes. **

Gawd... Dad... "now" what have you done?

* the white-faced Belinarian monkey leaps from a branch onto the boy's shoulder and makes a few screeching noises, seeming to nod in agreement *

Nothing... nothing....yet.
Get down Trouble... yer going home quick on the double... and tell yer mom to meet me in Leringard like... real bloody quick.

Invisibly wandering on the outskirts of Hempstead, Dur'Thak overhears this information from a short interchange between farmers.

In response he mutters, "Vine-hugging rottersssss. The infinite end or just a tick, alwayssss 'eht the rot-cant."

With that he wanders off towards the forests to disappear. To those who can see invisible creatures, Dur'Thak seems to move a bit quicker than before, perhaps thinking more on the words than he seemed to outwardly.

* As the days pass the rumour spreads quickly from the Brelin Kingdom to the neighbouring Kingdoms of Trelania and Co'rys. In some towns and villages there are outbursts of panic on the streets, which are quickly calmed, however, by the solid presence of the city guard and in some places even militia.

The markets are emptied within days by people who spend most of their money on food and drink to barricade themselves within their homes, where they anxiously and fearful awaiting the ninth day.

Upon the ninth day, however, no fiery colossus emerges and no dreadful firestorm purges the continent. Slowly, people appear from their homes - some joyful and overwhelmed by relief, while others merely chuckle at their own foolishness. Others, however, are angry.

---------------

If one travels from Spellguard towards Paruin, one will pass a cluster of trees on the right side of the road at one point. Shortly thereafter the site of a large fire can be seen on the right-hand side of the road. Only charred grass and wooden logs remain of what must have been a huge bonfire.

It is rumoured that the man who claimed himself a prophet of the apocalypse was burned alive on this bonfire. Chased out of Spellguard by an angry mob, he made it this far before they caught up to him. It is said that even the blistering fires could not stop him from screaming about the end of the world... not until the flames took care of that.

There are no eyewitnesses to this deed, however, and therefore it remains a rumour only. *
