Drow
« on: January 07, 2008, 09:29:25 PM »
I was reading through the Layonara Timeline on LORE and I was interested in the impact of Drow. I noticed that twice the Drow attacked major citys. Once in -105 at Westgate and again at 834 at Port Hempstead. Now my question is, is there any more information on these attacks? Has it been written down which city or house of Drow attacked these two cities? I ask this because im doing research for a PC and i was thinking about having the Patriarch and the Warmistriss fighting in those battles (well atleast the one in 834 at Port Hempstead)

Thanks for the help:

Not to be picky, but to get away from the exact D&D setting, we no longer refer to Dark Elves as Drow here. =P They are just plan old Dark Elves here!

Outside of that, seek EdtheKet out for those kind of questions. He has his dirty little hands burried in the Dark Elf cookie jar here on Layonara.

Edit: Ninja fixed my mistake!

Edthenet? :)

No, I don't have any specifics on these battles as far as houses and stuff are concerned.

They also attacked Hlint in the past 50 years (a few times), and more is known about that.

The person to ask on those would, I believe, be Leanthar, as they might be from the original PnP game.

Let me rephrase that:
No, we don't have any specifics on these battles as far as houses and stuff are concerned.
It's undefined, and they were/are background information. PnP sessions took place during the attack on Hempstead and Westgate.

I wouldn't think that would be a single house anyway, but rather an alliance of dark elven houses and chromatic dragons. It is hard to believe that only a single house, however powerful, would gain sole alliance with the dragons and deep dwarves and so on. Also despite the total destruction of the city, the dark elves actually lost (sort of... don't think anyone won there really) and a good number were slaughtered... and the ones that fled were lost in tunnels collapsing. So chances are probably slim, whether it was one house or three, that there were too many left over to be bitter about it...

What is great about there not being a "specific" writing or history that you have to follow, is it gives you room to be creative and come up with your own ideas. You just have to run those ideas by the team and have the approved.

You have the dates of when events occured and the "outcome" of them. From there put together something that fits your PC's history.

That's easier said than done :) And why do you want this info anyway, for a bio?

Well Yes, I have been researching on LORE and info I can get lol about the Dark Elves and the The Deep. I am doing research on for a bio. for a PC. I am trying to tie into this character someone that was at one of these battles. At least the attack on Port Hempstead.

P.S. I have a few more questions sense in The Deep there is no sunlight (obviously) How do the Dark elves and really all of The Deep races no when a day has happen? How does one tell how long a day is? and If they don't have a way to determine this how can any PC of any The Deep races have an age if they have no meaning of time?

Well unless changed here, and I never read it to be changed, dark elf cities keep track of time through a magical clock if you will. It sits at the top of the tower of wizardy and the arch mage of the school oversees the lighting of it everyday. The clock gives off some light throughout the city (and when I say some, i mean a soft glow) during the day hours and of course it is dark during the night hours.

As far as any dark elf that leaves a city, they have no real way to keep track of time, which is in part one of the many reasons why the underdark is so wild. Being alone out there could make someone go mad, if they were able to survive alone in the first place.
