Black Raven has been banned
« on: January 09, 2008, 09:25:41 PM »
Black Raven, player of Drea Llewellyn (formerly Katrina), Iilzetrahd'yah and Vellucia Kasha has been banned in relation to this event:

http://forums.layonara.com/layonara-server/156142-server-configuration-change-everyone-please-read.html

I have very little else to say about this that hasn't been said in the other thread.  This was not her first infraction, but it is her last.

This is a disappointing attack against the community and in particular the six people whose characters she hijacked last night.

Was she talked to before this decision was made?

Just curious...  I'd be interested in knowing why she did it...

She was not spoken to about these actions, no. Though had she been present on IRC it's very possible that I would have.  I do not have the time, however, to track down people who do things like this to find out their reasons for doing so. I've spent enough hours on it already.

To be brutally honest, it would not matter what her reasons were. This action alone is sufficient cause to ban her from this community.

Well I highly doubt I could ever see her being justified by any reason she could give, I am just curious as to why she would want to cause harm to begin with.

Thank you for the time you have put in Dorg, especially since you do it for the community at the expense of your own time.

Yes, she's been spoken to- on numerous occasions, actually. When Dorganath said this isn't the first time she's crossd the line, and that means we've spoken to her more than once. This particular situation is ridiculous, however, and doesn't even warrant a "talking to," but a straight-up ban, not to mention anything previous.

I'm a little miffed because I defended her, tried to help her, even going so far as to convince other GM's to give the kid a chance to come around, only to have it thrown in my face like this.

But no, that won't stop me from still trying to help those folks that might need it, and to champion potential when I see it. This won't be the last time it blows up in my face, either. Just makes it harder for the rest of you that might need a helping hand, because stuff like this makes the team trust less, lose faith.

EDIT: Dorg beat me to the reply, but yeah, still miffed.

**shakes head** Running around with other folks characters? Killing them, making off with their stuff? What was going through that kids head..... just plain ridiculous.

In that case, I suggest you contact her and ask her.

I donno how, and since I have never gotten along with her, I wouldn't really wanna talk to her.

Now I'd love to know how she did it, cause she never seemed like someone capable of that but, guess we'll never know that.  It's just a shame it even had to happen

Thanks to the team for your watchful eye!  Something was odd about that character I just couldn't put my finger on it.  I hope that this person can get some help before she or he self destructs.  Thanks again team:)

Well... certainly never saw that coming.

Good Rp'er.
Will be missed... but not so much now for pulling a stunt like that.

I really figured he/she would end up just leaving the server.  Not really that shocked... surprised he/she went to that much trouble.

There are a lot of folks who teeter on the edge and when an opportunity presents itself, they find some solace in detonating the bridge instead of just walking away while it's only slightly smoking from previous events.  That way they can actually fully commit to quitting.

Black Raven had been teetering on the edge for a while, and had mostly walked away, hopefully this provided the needed closure and he will actually not look back after this.  It's hard to extract yourself from a community like this, especially when you realize you've got an uphill battle due to mistakes that you've made, or in unfortunate cases, mistakes others have made that compromised someone's perception of you.  It's also telling of where folks are in their lives on how they deal with it.  Some folks really do just disappear quietly in the night, some say long and tearful farewells, and some try to 'get back' at the community in some way.  Maybe they feel their time was stolen, or things were injust, but rarely can anyone who burns the bridge say they were completely without fault.  The quiet or sad goodbyes are exceedingly rare, which says a lot about the online game community.  Old devs try to reclaim their work, players create websites for the sole purpose of virtual vandalism, and of course the dime a dozen 'I hate you all and I hated my time here'.  And hey, I'll tell you from experience, it's certainly the easy way out on committing to some form of closure.  But this, the other examples we've seen in the past... everyone had a good time here while they were here, it's easy to get angry when whether by your own hand or others, or usually some combination, the good times don't quite fit right anymore.  Bombing the bridge is a form of personal weakness in not being able to deal with these things without hurting others, and while I know it's tempting when things don't seem fair, anyone who takes that track is going to look back someday and shake their head at themselves.

I'm not going to comment on her/his actions. I did enjoy playing with her/him though and will miss Drea.

What will happen to her house in Leringuard? I have a character Buddy Tenker that lives in her house and uses it to store items. I gave her a large sum of money for a life long lease. (I can not remember the exact sum it was not more then 30k)

I'm disappointed, but I can't say I'm overly shocked.

Glad to hear the problems were fixed as quickly (if not, perhaps, easily) as they were.

I'm with Chongo on wishing the goodbyes were quiet and sad, rather than... This.

Whenever doing something like this person did it is time to take a step back away from the computer and go outside. Get a tan. Meet some people. Go for a walk.

And don't forget to nab a drink while out there. A nice stiff one. May I recommend Tiki-Ti?

I want to thank the Staff for telling us who, what, and why. I hate seeing someone banned and never knowing why. The way I see it, if you do something to deserve a ban from the Staff, it should be shared with the community.

Heck there should be a user agreement saying that! =) Personally I want to know who and what kind of person was behind that key board. I have met so many friends via online games. I have come to learn that you can tell a true persons colors by the way they act behind a keyboard and monitor.

With the protection of the keyboard and screen people forget who they are sometimes. If they will do it in a virtual world and game, then you had better believe they will do it in real life when it really counts. Especially if money is involved.

Again thanks for keeping us informed.

Sad to hear that of Black Raven, she was a good rp'er with interesting characters, but I must say that I had an odd feeling about characters like Drea Llewellyn, that made me wonder that if she enjoyed playing a chaotic and plotting person a bit too much.
But thanks for the team for the info, and of swift actions taken.
