Moraken's Sword

It's a cool spell.
It's incredibly useful for someone who's banned school is conjuration.
It's.. transmutation?
I'm wondering how the spell Moraken's sword works. It's not conjuration, because if it were.. well, it'd be a conjuration spell. The 'transmutation' suggests that I'm turning something mundane INTO the helmed horror that's summoned, but as I don't actually have to carry around a spare sword/armour... am I just weaving the helmed horror out of weave and air?
I'm curious, because it's been asked of me.

Well, I know Brac carried or carries around a set of armor that was or is played as being animated... (I'm thinking of the right spell, right?) I always kinda thought of it that way. It always seemed silly to play a transmutation with nothing to start from originally, but as you say, nothing is mechanically required. I would personally play it as an animation, though.
Why didn't we give Moraken the famous Conjurer and planewalker Moraken's Gate or something instead of the abjuration and transmutation spell?
I know, it was just a name change, and maybe he accidentally dragged something crazy back with him through the planes and some point that was so crazy it inspired the need for disjunction... it's just funny when you think about fields of expertise

I always think of the caster carrying around a miniature version of the helmed horror- like a toy, which he then could use to transmute into a veritable fighting force if needed.

The 3.5 spell is Evocation, but... *Shrugs.* Transmuting a miniature sword into an animated one doesn't seem too out of the park (though I'd still consider most animating tasks to be in the realm of Evocation, myself, but then again,
Animate Objects
is Transmutation, as well).

I love the NWN Animate Objects! I wanted that to go in Layo sooo bad. Acacea would animate clothes and stuff all the time.

I think I'd zap the statue of Rael to terrorize and demoralize the Prantzians with a good ol fashioned Godzilla rampage! I'd then animate Jennera's in Rodelm and lead it down there to battle him in some epic macrocosmic battle to the death.

Remember though, Jennara's massive statue must first get beaten up very badly at regular size. Then even more badly when she enlarges by a massive portion. Then during the third match call upon some uber-destruction weapon that instantly slays the Rael statue with one hit, who performs a mid air spin and explodes when he hits the ground, possibly hidden behind some previously un-noticed hill so you don't actually see the body hit the ground.
Evil never wins because good cheats during the last fight
