Item Price Discussion
« on: April 11, 2008, 11:09:07 PM »
// just an ooc question :
// A pawnshop sells things brought in by people that sell/pawn their items because they are in serious need of cash .
// rings and amu's made by Shiff sounds to me like he is crafting them on order for the shop .
// i haven't looked at prices and price-lists lately even though i am in a guild , but they seem a bit low .
// I thought the community had agreed that its bad for the economy if we start a price-war , but selling ( i think ) further under the regular prices guilds offer will start one .

//FYI:  The Pawn Shop got them from me...  I wasn't selling them so I sold them to him...  *shrugs*  Hence...  I pawned them

// no one is seemingly selling much , but if we all go selling what we have in stock for bottom prices we will destroy the economy even further .
// not selling is the curse off the crafter - every- crafter

//Thanks for your feedback on prices!~
Please do let me know if you think something I'm selling is priced too low. And your reasoning on that.

Most prices in Saddlebag I set based on flyers I've seen on the forums (from twin dragons, orc basher's, crafters, etc.), or the prices are set by the person selling by commission through the pawn shop (but even then, if I have time, I research the price on the forums).

I set the jewelry prices equal to what Shiff has had on his jewelry flyer. The jewelry prices are 10-20% under the Orc Basher's Guild, though one can earn a 10% or more discount at Orc Basher's by purchasing several items. If I'm not mistaken, generally the Angels Guild sells for less than Orc Basher's, and also has a discount for purchasing two or three items, instead of one. So, correct me if I'm wrong, Angels Guild, but these prices I'm listing are probably similar to your prices before or after the discount for multiple purchases. At this point in time, Saddlebag Pawn has not had a discount for multiple purchases, and recently I sold a ring and an amulet to one person, without any discount on the prices stated in the flyer.

Enjoy!

//The prices have all been lowered in the last few months it seems , i think the only price-list that is still representing the prices as they _ more or less _ should be is the Raven list .
// My understanding as i just read a character submission , is that Layonara is still a - low magical - world .
// it seems a bit funny to me that in a low-magical world items that magically enhance skills/ weapons/ armors , are cheaper then weapons and armors themselves .
// since i'm the weapon-maker/armorer/tinkerer off our guild i'm trying to only set the prices for the things i make myself.

// p.s. : if any one off the team could place this discussion somewhere else i would appreciate it , it was wrong to hijack this threat to start this discussion on prices and i apologize for that .

I'm fine with the GM's coming out with the official price list (if it's Raven's, which is higher than other guilds, that's fine), and each guild can work with those prices, +/- up to 20% or whatever. But unless I'm mistaken, there is not one official price list. So until that time, i'll keep basing my prices on what I believe is being offered by other crafters and guilds, including the Angels Guild.

and yes, moving this discussion away from my IC Saddlebag Pawn Shop sales would be appreciated.

thanks!

To me it seems that is what has happened over the last 6-7 months .
People taking the lowest price they could find and go under that by 5-20 % .
If some-one now goes 20% under the prices you are handling , then another repeating that , and so on and so on , then in a few weeks everything will be for free .
I do agree that it would be good if the team took one price-list and set that as standard , but i doubt the team has time for that and to make sure every one keeps to that would take up man-hours that could/should be used for other things .
It's up to us players to stop this degrading off equipment and not to the team i think .

//what i am trying to say is, I do my best to price goods at a price I believe one could find them elsewhere, such as at Orc Bashers, Twin Dragons or Angels. though some of the time i am estimating, since Angels does not publish their prices. Still, my experience purchasing from them gives me some idea. So to the best of my knowledge I am not selling less than what ye could buy these goods elsewhere. Correct me if I'm wrong...

//And he is selling them for what I sell mine at..  the rings and amulets I mean.  and to be fair, I'm not a fan of having one guild dictate any sort of prices.  The whole idea is for some competition, I think, and I set mine to what they are to try and sell the only thing I can make.  I'm not part of a craft guild.  If someone wants to pay the extra to the guilds since they are more public and available, fine, but I don't plan on raising my prices for things based on another guild.  Infact I'd lower mine, so I have a better chance to sell them

and if guilds take your prices and go under them 5-20% ( which is accepted it seems ) you will still be too high priced and wont sell anything again while the items get sold FAR below their worth .

Read my previous response to see what COULD happen ...and keep in mind that if guilds want they could sell the items UNDER the cost it takes to makes them .

When i said " its up to players to solve this " i meant that players need to agree on prices that are fair ...if that doesn't happen then the economy will be broken further .

Well can we move this discussion then elsewhere?  We turned Riven's thread into a debate, and not what it was intended to be

*** Posts moved to here per request. ***

Side note:

The reason for the Raven prices to be higher than others is not because we wishes to earn tons and even more gold than others, but rather that the prices mostly haven't been touched for over a year or so. And despite the fact that it is almost impossible for us to sell anything nowadays (sheer number of those who are selling for cheaper), we certainily still won't lower our prices for obvious reasons. At the time writing the price list, the prices were within a few percent of the "standardized" market prices, which we still feel are the most reasonable ones.

The retail prices for Kat's Creations also follow that of Ravens Guild for the same reasons.

I hardly ever make a sale these days; because of the numbers of sellers, the lack of standard merchant nights and my decreased playing time.

Thank you for Moving the discussion Weebs :)

And thanks for the input to Weeblie and Minerva .

I guess now we need to try and find out what price-list ( existing or a new one ) every one should use .

Originally Orc-Bashers prices were somewhat like Raven prices i think , maybe a few true cheaper but not much .

Since the Raven price-list is one off the most complete , it could/should easily be used as reference point to all to keep the prices at a " normal " rate .

At-least that is what i am thinking .

I do agree though that the prices do need some sort of stabilizing.  but I also think those that specialize in one thing (the independents) would make sense to be lower...  But anyway, maybe we should try and find a agreeable price list (with room for a +10%/-10% adjustment), and have players agree to it like we did with DMOE's Looting Policy.  I'd be all for that

The raven trade company have allways ben close on the mark for aslong as i can remember , with voon for many years i didnt sell a single item all though hee could make most things he needed  , i still only crafted for friends that i had known since i joined he and then only if they brought me all the ingrediants , but the point being i didnt sell a single item for over a year i think because i , for one i didnt want to under cut anyone and for two because theres no way on the planet people would pay say 25,000 trues for a single resistance when they could just go SOMEWHERE else and pay 10,000 trues less .

I agree as well. If all guilds/crafters/merchants agree to Raven's Prices, that would create a good standard. Then merchants can do their +/- 20% off of that bar (as guilds do for multiple purchases, or whatever reasons), but it would be understood that items are not sold less than 20% under that bar, except when selling at wholesale prices to a merchant for the merchant to resell.

Sounds like a plan Riven and Saddlebag Pawn would happily support!

Raven prices on beginner items such as cougar leathers and panther cloaks are way too high, in my opinion.  Things meant for level 1 and 2 characters should not be completely out of their reach.

I agree with Serissa. Also there are many items that are not on that price list or the variations in pricing needed. We need a price list that also includes the pricing if all ingredients are supplied. The only things that should not have set prices are exceptional items and the highest craftable items (emmy, mirhtril, yew items).

Well, we can debate the prices on specific items tel the cows come home. Raven's, however is the most complete and well-priced list in general, IMO. I price some of my things below them (panther cloaks), and some above (hood of shadows), due to level requirements, and cost of materials and such.

I do think that they are one of the only merchants to have resisted lowering their prices try and sell a few things, and should be considered a good standard by the player base, but not followed slavishly.

Ironically, I've been accused of price gouging because I try to keep prices up... I do think some people cling to the idea that supply and demand should shape the market and will keep it working smoothly, failing to consider that this is a game economy, which doesn't work the way the RL does.
