I have a doubt about the use of this skill,

Well, last sunday my character was askled to find some dark elves in the Dragon Isle, this was asked by a player and it has nothing to do witha a quest or something.

The point is that part of the test is to locate where are they in the Dragon Isles, I would like to know if I could ask for a check in this skl9ill to know at least from where I should start searching.

I understand this has a cost in trues, but it will giive at least a start point for further investigation.

i know it comes into play in dm quests as i have used it myself, and of late dont be so sure what your seeking doesnt have quest involvement, it might be a side thing

Well, Gather Information would only work if the population in an area would have any information worth gathering.  That would, reasonably, be left up to a GM to determine.

Knowledge about Dark Elves is not something that the general population would normally have available to them.  If there's an exception on the Dragon Isles, I don't know about it.

**waves** Since it was my character giving you the "quest" to bring back a few drow heads, I'll go ahead and let you know that as your character asks around the general (non-adventuring) population, he's hard pressed to find any answers, as first of all, no major population of non-monstrous races lives on the isles, and second, few non-adventurers travel to the isles. Those that do visit the islands regularly don't go too far from the tiny trading port.

Since the general population doesn't regularly explore the isles, maybe Lance should seek out the part of the population that would have experience as explorers. No Gather Info check needed for that, either.
