Teleportation in housing thought

I'm sure it would require a great deal of effort and problems, but I wondered if by chance it would be considered anyway.

The addition to a portal location in Spellgard.  Its quite easy to portal to Fort Wayfare, or even elsewhere, but I think that Spellgard is a location that few visit, and having a portal to take you there would increase activity in that region.

Well thats what I think anyway.  What do you think?

I think it's a good idea, an with it being "the" city of the Al'Noth I don't know how they don't have establish their own portal route by now.

Why would they need it when most of them have a tomb of teleportation that lets them port where ever they want?

Correction, they can go one place of their own choosing, it doesn't just go anywhere. And the only ones with it is the mages really, clerics, Sorcerors and the like doesn't have such a neat thing ;)

Mechanically, the tome only lets them teleport back to one location which they have "marked" previously.  It doesn't allow for random teleporting.

But if you talk about RP-wise, then yes.  Learned wizards would simply teleport themselves.

There is a portal to Spellgard already...

Unfortunately, for the PC population, that other town is about as seldom visited as Spellgard itself (even more so I would dare to say). :)

The portal in spellguard is not connected with the others as prantz wayfare or arnax. That's what is being asked here.

The Spellgard portal is not the only one not connected to the same "system" as Wayfare/Prantz/Arnax.  They are also different in construction than those in the housing portal system.  Most notably, they're one-way...and free to use. There are two other sets of paired portals that are bi-directional and pay-per-use.

Anyone here remember when housing portals were 4000 GP per use?

Housing portals were meant as a convenience for traveling quickly between continents.  If you look at the other fixed, bi-directional portals, the same is true. Making housing portals free to use a while back, we hoped to encourage people to travel around more.  It was also our motivation for reducing boat tickets from around 300 GP to around 30 GP.

Now, I know lots of people have set up a sort of ad-hoc portal "network" consisting of houses on West and Central giving people access to housing portals for quick and convenient continent-hopping.  This certainly wasn't the motivation behind making housing portals free to use, but it happened...oh well.  At the same time though, I'm not sure this is a precedent to expand housing portal destinations to one of these other locations, as that was simply not the intent of the system.  Likewise, one could just as easily make the same argument for the 5 other portal destinations, but again, we're getting away from the intent of the portal system.

By extension, we could say the same thing about boats.  Why not allow boat traffic from any harbor to any harbor? Again, this gets away from the intent of the system.

That was the OOC reasoning. Given 15 minutes or so, I could probably come up a good IC reason as well.

Having said all this, there's no technical reason why this couldn't be done...it's quite easy really..., and perhaps there are other destinations to consider. But they need to be balanced with the intent of our overall travel system.

I know of one portal that I have not been able to use although I stumbled across it,  I have absolutely no idea where it goes or why it was placed where it was placed.  I also found a portal in Spellgard and I also have no idea where that goes and have thus far not been tempted to take my poor lower level char flitting across the land in hopes I can survive the location I land in.  Survival is tough enough sometimes right there at home.

 sorry wandered off topic....

The discussion was to add a new destination to the portal choice.  I gather the way it is currently being used was not part of the master plan but is going to be allowed to continue.  Since this activity was not a part of the master plan adding more choices of location is not going to happen.  Since that wasnt what it was actually designed for.  Which is too bad because I as an individual would really appreciate a wider choice of travel destinations.

But its your design and world...  I was only making a suggestion.
