No Portal in Mariner's Hold
« on: May 26, 2008, 10:05:04 PM »
I know that the portal in the Inn in Mariner's Hold sometimes get "lost" with updates (and I really like the water in the streets!).  But with the docks closed, it makes getting home to Leringard a particularly trying ordeal just now.

Just thought I'd mention that the portal was currently gone, in case it was an easy fix.  Thanks!

you could always pay the price of a room to use the one at the Weary Traveller

This post http://forums.layonara.com/rumour-has/182562-mariners-hold-washed-away.html warns that boat service will be sketchy out of the Hold for a few weeks.

the portal in the Inn is player placed furniture I believe, not part of the module. It should load when someone knocks on the back door (the locked one to the private part of the inn) not the "front door"

The portal is a housing portal and is never "lost" because of an update.  Like any other housing placeable, it has to be "activated" by someone activating the house door after every server reset.  In the case of the Weary Traveler, the relevant door is actually not the door to the tavern.

Anyway, it's not a bug, and at the moment, the Weary Traveler is packed with displaced people recovering from the massive wave that minerva linked in her post.  Natural disasters sometimes cause inconvenience.

It's in a room. you must purchase a key from the key machine.   The Portal in the Traveller has not been out in the open for a very long time.

I know I bought a key and went in like every room.  Nothing there...

The Inn is like any other house.  The player placed furniture does not "appear" until the door is activated.   In the case of the Weary Traveller this door is in the back of the Inn, not the front door that in unlocked at the front. The locked player door is around back... in case you can't find it , it's in the back.

No complaints about the inconvenience of the tidal wave on our part. It actually inspired a lot of great RP for the night. We just weren't sure how to make the Weary Traveler portal spawn and why it occasionally seems to disappear. Thanks for clearing that up (and perhaps this should be stickied somewhere?)

Well remember, the portal in the Weary Traveler is there by the charity of the owners of that place. It is not anything we have specifically placed or anything the GM Team asked them to do, and if they choose to remove it, it's gone, and that would be just fine with us.

The same goes for the Orc Bashers and any other "open" housing portal.

would the team rather have us remove the portal to help let people travel the areas more ?

No, I didn't say that.  It's fine what you have.

I was just indicating to jecklar (and anyone else reading) that these portals are "yours" not "ours" and for the foreseeable future, we're perfectly happy to keep them under your control.  But by the same token, if you (or any other house/hall owner) wishes to remove the portals, that's your prerogative, and as such, if they're suddenly gone from one location or the other, then that's also just fine by the GM Team.

Thanks for the info.  I only posted because I know there have been times before when the portal at the Weary Traveller disappeared when module updates were made, and I seem to recall discussion at those times that its disappearance was some artifact of the update and not done on purpose.  Usually, it reappears shortly thereafter.  So just FYI.

 Thanks, guys!
